This carb was SPOT ON outta the box. I set the floats and started making pulls. Air fuel, idle air, curb idle, accl pumps, etc....all right on. I'm very impressed with Pro-systems work.

What all is involved in the swap to the distributor. Is it something that someone can do on there own. Do you have the part numbers for everything involved. I know its a lot to ask, but I would like to go this route. Also is the 454 you used the one that GM sells as a crate motor short block?

No its not the GM crate shortblock that is currently available. The front engine cover is a GM piece...it comes with the necessary cam extension to drive the distibutor. The water pump spacers are from Wegner automotive. The distributor is a ford 302 piece.

Once you get the front cover, it has the #'s for the remaining parts listed for you. Its an easy afternoon swap really.

Why did you go this route instead of factory crank sensor triggering? Did you have issues? The factory setup should be more accurate.

the msd 6010 box has it's limitations...mainly in rpm. it also gives you the ability to run a real ignition box, like a 7531 or the like...

Great runs Collin. When you're ready to go a little bigger on the cam, let me know. I'm ready when you are.

seems like anything above 8000 rpm with a 6010 box is hit or miss based on my readings. lots of guys spining their motors to 9500+ so they went to a distributor.

yeah, should be fine. i'm running a 6010 box in my car, i love it! i wished i could data log with it though...seems like it wouldn't have been hard to put a "record" function in the box when it has gauges showing you timing, rpm, and manifold pressure right on the screen...

Gotcha........ you know you'll get the call! Looks like I'm going to punt on the tranny upgrade, so all we can do is make a bit more power....

that's for you to decide. what is the combo? do you race it? is the extra tenth or two worth the extra 400-800 bucks over another carb? could that be spent somewhere else? these are all questions only you can answer.

Its just not about extra power. There supposed to be a little tamer on the street too.

exactly....street manners are MUCH better with the SV1. Better throttle response, no more loading up sitting in traffic, excellent cold starts (no more waiting for it to warm up a bit), better cruising efficiency too. Picked up 18 rwhp just swapping to the SV1 over a well tuned BG 1030. Track proved it with over 1 tenth faster in the quarter, and over 1mph gain...all in worse DA than my previous best.

IMHO, I'm sure one could get the same performance out of a well tuned dominator, but I doubt it could match the SV1 street manners.

Only change was the carb and we ran last weekend in +800 air. Still running a Pat G spec'd hydraulic cam, all motor and only 92 octane pumpgas.

What did your combo dyno for power? Your sum seems greater than your parts, def. got me curious....

Forgot to ask, what was the shift point with the hyd roller and did the new carb happen to pick up any fuel economy? I figure it might but it wouldnt matter if it didnt.

I dont run a vac. pump.

It pulled 567 rwhp and 478 rwtq on a dynojet back in Oct.

The shift point is 6800 and it goes thru the traps ~7200
