Default Comp Cams 273 LSR 5.3

I know everyone has different opinions on cams , so I called Comp and asked what cam to run with my 70 Nova LY5 5.3 carbed project. 3200 stall converter/TH400, haven't picked a rear gear or bought tires yet, so I'm pretty open. I'm gonna drive it some and race it some, 125 hp nitrous kit. Their tech person suggested the 273 LR cam, but my local dyno guy/engine builder doesn't like it and can't figure out why they suggested it.

I have like 3 weeks left to return this cam without a restocking fee, so I'm trying to figure out if I want to send it back for something else.

That ca,m is close to the Patriot grind i am going to use in my 5.3, the Patriot is 225/229@.050, 582/589 lift on a 114 LSA, so that cam should run close to mine, but probably a touch better on motor, but i got mine with te 114 so i can throw boost at it.

I went to Comp once before asking for a reccomendation and they didn't let me down. I'm running the stock cath. port heads and planned to make up for the stock heads with a lil' spray. Sounds like it should run aite.

Im running stock heads on my 6.0 and it really delivers with the Trex cam, went 7.2 at 97 1/8th mile, then got kicked so i couldnt get the 60 down to ET a little better, LOL.

I don't know what your machinist doesn't like. Looks like a winner to me.

Looks good to me. The only thing I would change is the lobe seperation. The 112 will work ok since you are planning on spraying though.

Absolutely nothing at this point. Motor is 20k mile 5.3 fresh from a totaled 2007 Avalanche. Plans were to change out the cam, valve springs, pushrods and oil pump, add my Edelbrock dual plane intake, carb and 125 hp nitrous kit and then run it. So far, it sounds like it would be about the right camshaft for what I want to do.
