Default LS-3 Combo

Great site. Like what I've read so far. I've been building motors for 20 years but im starting on my first LS. Kinda curious to see what everyone thinks of the combo. First, the car is a 1968 Nova. All steel except hood. Back-halved with 31x13.50 slicks. Should weight around 2900lbs with me in it. 9" with 4.11's. TH-350 with 4000 stall (foot brake). The motor is a stock LS-2 6.0 short block with stock L-92 heads, 823 casting. Had the heads flowed (317 @ .600lift).The cam is a Comp 228 / 234 @.050 on a 114 LSA .622 .633 w/1.8 rocker (got cam for free). Heads will be milled to 60cc which will put me at 11.9 to 1. GMPP single plane intake with a 950HP Holley. I'm not used to using a cam with such little duration, but Ive seen this cam make real good power. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

My first inclination is that it may like a little more gear with those 31" tall slicks. just my .02

I think if you go with a carb the tighter LSA's are still the norm. ????

I really suggest a custom grind, then match the converter to the rest of the spec to get the most of it.

I agree you will probably want something in the 110lsa range with more duration and lift too. You would definately be better off with a custom cam.

Check your piston to valve clearance. Thats a LOT to shave off those heads with that cam. JMHO. Eric L

Cutting more than .030 off any oe heads results in intake to heads alignment issues

I agree that it would like a tighter LSA. I may have the cam reground. When you take that much off the heads you correct the intake angle. Everything will line up fine. Im still second guessing myself on milling the heads that much. I do have to be careful with the cam since there are no valve reliefs.

Air up the cylinder, install a checking spring, let out the air, bring the piston to TDC,and then check your clearance ????? (before tearing down motor) or if the heads are off you could do the same with clay ?
