Waiting for my carb to come back from Pro-Systems. I need to get the car back on track for the big Heads up Madness race at Sunshine Dragstrip next Saturday. I will be running the 7.50 index class. So, the week after next will be the soonest.

The Victor Jr. is on. It only needed the idle screws opened a little bit and drives exactly the same around town. But, it is a full point leaner at WOT (13.4 - 13.6:1). I am going to go up 2 jet sizes all the way around and then give it a try again. It will likely be Thursday before I have time to change the jets and test it out.

I created some time this afternoon to re-jet the carb and take the car for a ride. To my surprise, it was even more lean with the 77/89 jets than it was with the 75/87 jets. So, I hooked up the fuel pressure gauge and took it for a ride. As the RPMs climbed the fuel pressure dropped down to 3 1/2 pounds and she started detonation clicking. I guess I will check the fuel filters and look over the pump. I am not sure if I finally just exceeded my fuel pumps capacity or if it was just coincidentally the same time something is going goofy in my fuel system.

It is an Edelbrock 1791. It appears it was just a coincidence, but the pump is giving up. It can barely keep 6 pounds at an idle now. I checked the rotor vanes, the filters, regulator and the bypass. It all looks good, the pump is just loosing it somewhere. So, time for a new pump.

I am considering a few different models:
Aeromotive 11106 (Tsunami)
Aeromotive Street Strip 11213

I heard a lot of good things about the Mallory 140, but it is too tall to fit my application.

Sometimes fortune smiles on you. Before I ordered a fuel pump from Summit, I found a brand new, never installed Aeromotive Street Strip 11213 fuel pump on Craig's list for $75. What are the odds?

So, the pump is in, the carb is jetted up 2 and I bumped the squirters from 35s to 37s to quench a slight hesitation. She is ready for prime time with the Victor Jr. Unfortunately, it has been raining all day, so no road test.

We shall see if I can get to the track Wednesday or Friday to see how the intakes measure up.

I think your info would be a great addition to this thread. This comparison will be relevant to a car of 3500 lbs with a 3000 stall and a 22x cam. It would be valuable to see your results with a different set up. Let's hear it!

Those Aeromotive SS pumps are junk - I went through 3 in 5 miles. Basically, on a cold-start if temps were around 0-5*C, it would pour about 5-6oz of fuel out of the pump body before sealing. I did some searching and found dozens of people w/ the same issue with them.

I'm 110% convinced it has something to do with dissimilar metals (since when it would heat up it would stop leaking), but their stance is the pump i sonly designed to work in certain environments, lol.

In any event, it's either Weldon to if I don't need a return line, Holley BILLET pump (the billet pumps are solid, the red/blue are junk)

i've had the aeromotive ss pump with no issues, and now running the tsunami, also with no issues.

I had my eye on the Tsunami pump, but this SS pump came along at a great bargain.

First I've ever heard of this. Mine doesn't leak at all and works much better than the Mallory 140 that has destroyed itself 3 times in the past 10 years. Then again, I don't run my car around here when there's ice on the roads...

If you google around (at least a few years ago anyways) I found several people with similar issues - "cold" weather, pump leaks massive amounts of fuel on startup. Like I said, I went through 3 pumps in a matter of days - each time I couldn't believe the pump was pouring fuel out of the body and kept thinking it has to be how I set it up, but it wasn't.

THe really weird thing (or maybe not, given one is probably just a re-branded pump) is that when I broadened my search I found the generic summit pump (which is a virtual clone of the aeromotive ss pump) did the same exact thing.

I have been using the aeromotive street/strip pump on the RS, works the same as the Holley blue pump i have used in the past, but i am sure the pressure is more consistent and is a return style unlike the blue i used to use.

The new pump is holding pressure no problem but damn is this motor thirsty with the new carburetor. I have 77/89 jets in this 750HP and is still between 13.2 to 13.5.. It also rattled at that AFR which it never did with the dual plane. So, I will go 2 more jet sizes and see where we land.
