Default Build plan help ???

I know it gets asked a lot and here it is again

LQ4 motor (spun cam bearing/ block checked good at machine shop)
Stock crank and rods...maybe pistons too ?
CompCam LSR lobe 239/247 at .050, 110/106. 3 bolt <--might go bigger?
VicJr. intake
750 Mighty Demon (double pumper)
LS3/L92 heads (milled to get comp. up <10.5-11:1> if keeping pistons)

What would you change and why ?

and YES...there is a budget (still need headers,MSD box,oil pan, spark plug wires, spark plugs, and all those other "little" things.)

ARP rod bolts
budget for pushrods
New pistons if the budget is there, or else cut the **** out of the heads for compression
call a cam GURU and get a custom cam spec'd for you, for your goals/combo

thats pretty much where I'm at..........
I called Bret Bauer for a cam

With pistons ($700-$750 or so) I'm hearing $4500-$5000ish worse case.

Yes ARP's included.

I just asked for a rough est.....until I drop it off and get it tanked ???????????

The size of that cam with square port heads seems to be diametrically opposed to stock rods and pistons. She is gonna want to spin for sure. If you are going to spin it up, I would add an ATI SFI 25% under-drive damper to the mix and an SFI flywheel. Also, with a cam that size and extended RPM, some Yella Terras might be a good addition.

I don't know much about demon carbs, but judging by the heads and cam, your likely RPM range will want a big carb. If you were talking Holley brand, I would say get the 4150 1000 CFM.

How much gear is in there?

Ah yes. What your are planning on building is the DMMizell special!

Lot's of good guru's around this site to choose from...
That .624/.624 239/247 110/106 LSL lobes cam originated via the guru's at Rapid Motorsports.

If staying with stock parts, you will have to flycut the pistons for clearance. (this is a must do)
As stated by 3pedals, I would also add ARP rod, main, and head fasteners to the list.
Patriot Gold dual springs, appropriately stiff pushrods, ect.

* 4000-4500 flashing converter is required to make it happy. That is part of the secret sauce of the combo.

The DMMizell special is a proven performer if you make the appropriate converter, gear, carb concessions.
-The track results speak volumes.

Dave Mizell's Mustang LQ4/L92 ran 9.80's: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fn719sol8hE&

Here is that same basic combo as Dave, but installed in Mike's 3700lb 68 Chevelle. Runs 10.70's.

Dave's engine/converter is now installed in a 57 Corvette: Runs 9.90's

4500 stall already in car along with 4.10's @ 3200# ish w/ driver.

So this is basically a proven combo ?

Would there be a better cam choice ??? more duration less lift...more life less duration ???

It would be great to have a few $$ left over for an AFR meter

Can't you get a 400+ cube TSP engine for that price? I would price some of the stroker short blocks, they will already have the proper valve reliefs, More CID's and be balanced. Machine shops will run away with your wallet.

That was a long block w/ cam,springs,pushrods,ect.... will just need intake, oilpan, valve covers.

And a worse case...needing pistons, bored, crank and rods resized and what knot.

But I'll take a look anyway.

I thought I saw 408" long blocks for about 3800 from a few different sources.

I am also building the DMMIZLE special, lol, Dave would get a kick out of that. Dave Mizzle is the MOST HELPFULL guy you will ever talk to. Give him a PM and pick his brain. He can tell you all about the motor affectionately nicknamed the "forever motor", cause its still kickin. I bought a 40,000 mile LY6 for $1300, and found a lot of the other items like carb, intake, etc used. Ill be lucky to have $3000 into the WHOLE swap when im done, and MANY people are doing the same. Heck, IIRC, 3 pedals setup last year was similar to this as well. Best of luck on what ever direction you decide to go. Eric L

Well, motor I bought needed a rebuild anyway and I like the piece of mind of everything fresh...but some stuff used isn't an issue.

We did shoot some PM's back and forth about a dozen times so I have the laundry list

Hope he doesn't want a royalty check....LOL

I am getting ready to sell a LY6 I picked up for a spare. I was going to build a mustang. But I have just decided to run my truck N/A as much as possible for the coming year.

Its a 24k mile 2008 LY6 long block including the coils. $1600.00 The motor is a Cam swap away from 525+ hp stock long block.

Because you live in Maryland and I live in VA. I'm putting it out there. I also have the MSD 6012 to run it I may sell.

Yup, that Chevelle rips!

Of interest to you, Speedtigger, that car is running a 200R4 trans with a 9.5" 4500 lockup converter from Ultimate Converters.

It's been as quick as 1.47 60ft, 10.77/124.91
