Default Thinking about going carbureted.

Well like it says I'm thinking about going carbureted since my car is a strip only car now. Will this help me to pick up power? I know it should make tuning easier and that's one of my main reasons for doing it. What intake and carb should I go with? Also which control system should I use, would the msd 601o, or 6012 be better? Thanks in advance.

6010 is the 24 reluctor wheel and 6012 is the 58 tooth wheel....comes down to what motor/wheel you have.

Looking at GM crate motors the carb makes more power over the EFI.

Looking at tests.... basicly the same numbers.

It's a LS1 and has a hot cam and stock heads but i plan to ditch that and go with probably an MS4 and some 243's. I'm kind of on a budget but I'm selling some of my old EFI stuff so that should help. I'm open to suggestions on cam choices also just trying to make max power from stock cubes.

A super victor for max power. Be ready to chop the cowl and get a nice hood to clear it of you do not have one.

Dont go with off the shelve cams. They are designed with fuel injection in mind. I would suggest ordering a custom ground cam.

Well, I will say BS to that as far as all cams, the trex is a crack head for efi or carbs. Lol

Lunati makes a series of cams specifically for carb'd LS motors. Massive lift though. Not sure if I have seen a post from anyone who is using one.

EFI cams seem to do better with a carb than EFI intakes so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

What about good rods and pistons, I know the stock crank is good for 1000 hp so I will just use it. Prolly going to stay n/a with nitrous. Would love to go turbo but that's just so much work and money.

BIG lift is where the BIG HorsePower comes, but you NEED the right valvetrain parts to keep it all alive!!
I am a believer in a custom cam as well, for the 25 to 50 extra dollars they cost, they are well worth it - BUT the Cam GURU you choose better have his $hit together, because I see alot of garbage being spec`d on this site...........

If it is a 370+ ci motor I would use a super victor with a 750-950 cfm carb for the top end power band.

Get a carb built for your motor if you are buying a new one. There is a guy on ebay who builds them spec for your motor for $25 less then jegs sells a off the shelf carb. RPM is the guys business name, out of MI.

If built for street I would use a vic jr and 750 cfm carb on a stock cube motor with a choke and power valves in the carb.

It's going to be drag race only but it's a stock cube 346 so a victor jr would be fine?

I'm looking for max power n/a and then an added shot of spray but budget friendly. I can get a brand new victor jr for 250$ so if that works that would be great.

I say trex cam, quick fuel 750, super victor intake and let it eat if you want a off shelf cam that is tried and true, holds several cam only records for a reason.

I wonder how well the trex would do with a set of ported 243's power wise.

I agree with zone, no hassle or fuss. Go with trex and vic jr. 750 carb. It will run very well esp with ported 243s.
