Default Combo decided !!

It is official, the dual plane LS3 intake will be headed my way today and the grinder is , well uhhh, grinding.
This combo should run circles around the old miss matched combo of Vic Jr single plane and comp LSR269-13. Not that the original combo was a slouch , but I feel the new one will do a much better job for what the ol 72 Camaro was built for. Cruising, light autocross and a rare trip to the ol1320.
The grinder isnt on LS1tech ,so I wont say names, but he speced a 220/230 at .050, 629/629 on a 108+4 to make good lowend torque and a very strong mid range. He said it will be over at 6000 rpms, but will get there with a quickness.
I will get feedback on the setup when the parts are on and running.

VIDEO ADDED!!!!!!!

Looking forward to the results once you get that buttoned back together!

You will have quite a bit more dynamic compression with the new cam, as you have moved the intake closing point @.050 from 38.5° to 34°.

The old cam yielded 9.92:1 dynamic compression and the new cam will increase that number to 10.11:1.

It should result in a very good bump in the usable power range.

Ive never really fooled with dynamic compression calculations , but have seen a few post on the subject. 10.11 is a lot of dynamic comp, isnt it? It should be very active at lower RPMs and pull plenty of vacuum for my power brakes.

Cranked and running!!!!! I fired it up this evening and it sounds pretty good. Much more chop at idle than the old cam. The Fast EZ is freaking out a little with the tighter LSA, but after 30 mins of idle and light taps on the throttle the A/F is getting better. It is still around 12.8-13.1, but that is alot better than the 12.0 it was at when I first fired it up.
I will get some fresh gas in it tomorrow and get a few miles under the belt, then I will have my son make a short vid of the idle. thanks for the help !!

A/F is at a strong 14.0 at idle and idle is a choppy 750 rpm. I had a little fight with the TPS because my return spring was stretched . I added the other spring and recalibrated and all is good now.
They are calling for a 100% chance of rain tomorrow, so Im not holding much chance for a drive, but we will see. Throttle response is great with a quick snap of the peddle showing 5 grand on the tach.

More to come!!

Here is a 25 to 85 mph vid with my sons digital camera. I didnt know till a few minutes ago that the MSD box is holding me to a 5500 rpm limit so I need a laptop to get into the MSD box and fix that. The motor definity wants a higher shift point. I did a run with the NO.6 pill and had spark knock. This run is with the NO.5 and I didnt hear any knock this time. We timed it at 6 seconds to go from a slow roll to 85 mph. I cant see my speedo for my arm when I laid into it but I just got the car straight in the road and rolled into the throttle. Somewhere between 20-25 mph at the start. ENJOY!!!

And here is a short idle clip/walk around. Ignore the belt chirp, I do,LOL.

No body like my vids ? I was thinking the ol LS3 was da#% quick from roll to 85! Anyway I am happy with the way it is running so far. A laptop and a few tweaks to the timing is the next step.

Thanks for the walk-around and ride-along vids! Car sounds like it has more "pop" in the exhaust note now versus the old cam.

Old Cam - Comp LSR 219/235 113+4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...dY942CU0#t=57s
vs.
New Cam - Bullet 220/230 108+4: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pwOL...ature=youtu.be

Does the new cam/intake accomplish what you were hoping to improve? You were looking for more a more responsive combo with more low and midrange power, specifically.

How would describe the performance and mannerism change from the old cam/intake to the new cam/intake overall?

Right now its just the NO.5 pill in the MSD6012 box. Most people think the timing needs to be much higher with the LS3 heads. My dynamic compression is going to hold me to a milder curve than I want, it seems. I have to get a laptop and start playing with the timing and see what I can get away with. We will see.

The old cam/intake was sluggish down low ,to say 3200 rpm, then it woke up. The new combo actually feels milder at part throttle, not as peaky and jumpy. It doesnt feel like a fast car, just easing around. Stab the throttle from a slow roll and it wakes up quickly. Not sluggish at all ! The road gets blurry with a quickness. I drove by the spot that I did the vid today and by my wifes odometer it was 1/10th of a mile from where I rolled into the throttle to where I hit the brakes. The car is very quick for a mild ,streetable setup. I am very happy with the performance!! A trip to the ol 1320 is in my near future . I just need to come across a laptop so I can raise the rev limiter and adjust the timing.
More to come!!

My friend came over this afternoon with his laptop to download a tune and the cable that came with the MSD needs an adapter( male to male) to load the tune. I had to order it, so a couple more days for a new timing curve.
I came up with a starting curve of 0-1000 15*, ramping to 23* at 2000, then to 24* at 3000, and up to 26* at 4000 and carrying that to the redline. I didnt want too much timing till 4000 because I think max cylinder pressure should be before that and dont want spark knock at max torque.
I am flirting with too much dynamic compression so the curve is mild to stay safe. What do you all think about the plan?

Oh boy. You haven't seen anything yet. When you get that rev limit up to 6800 and get the timing curve where it likes it, you will be really thrilled. They run a lot harder when you wind em' up.

I just ordered a cheap refurbed laptop and a map sensor, so things will be getting more interesting in a few days.
I am going to be leaning on you guys pretty hard when the whole timing thing gets started. Not so much the static timing as I have a pretty good handle on where I need to start, but the map stuff is bogging my brain down. I keep thinking in terms of RPM not throttle position. I guess when I get the display up with the map graph it will be easier to figure out.

Stay tuned !!!
