Default Problem fixed!!!!!! VID ADDED

Guys, I decided to post this up on a new thread because I want a lot of my LSX buddies to know about the low profile cold air kits and how they DONT work on an air hungry LS beast.
For those that haven't checked in on my " track trip coming soon, estimates?" thread, I just made my first trip to the track yesterday to set my timing and tweak the fuel air on the Fast EZ efi. The car ran 12.4 at 109 with a 1.7 60ft. The 60s were better than I expected with my 2200rpm stall and stiff road racing type suspension, but that is where the good ended. the car wouldn't pull past 5500rpms! It would leave really good and run like an 11 sec car up to about 4800rpms and then it would turn into a 15 sec car till it nosed over completely at 5500. Id hit the next gear and the same thing, etc, etc.
I did some research on the spectre cold air bonnet I am (WAS) running and found that it will only move 625cfm of air. I looked up the air flow my engine needs on Wallace racing and came up with a MINIMUM of nearly 800 cfm.
Today I pulled the cold air kit and installed my 14" drop base filter w the filter top. I just came back from a quick test to see if I had any improvement. I rolled into the throttle at around 25mph and watched the tach free float to 7000 rpms before I could hit second gear.
I cant believe the difference in the car! I shifted at 7k and it didn't show any signs of letting up. Moral of the story, do the research before you buy or you too can eat 300 buck worth of cold air kit and a wasted 60 buck on a trip to the track, LOL.

Edit.... Track trip coming soon! Oh and anybody got a 350hp engine that needs a really cool looking cold air kit, CHEAP? lol

WOW....Thinking 11.8's guess was way off....11.3-4's might be the number ?

Glad you found it....can't wait 'til you get back out there

Doug, Im not going to speculate as to what it will run next time, but if nothing breaks, it will be a lot quicker than 12.4 at 109, LOL. At least I will sleep better tonight knowing I have no major issues with the engine and its supporting systems. I am excited to get back to the track for some redemption.
That dual plane intake and tight LSA cam worked well with the tight converter. I was really surprised with how well the car left. I held against the stall at about 1500 rpms to let it flash a little and it just shot out of the hole.

Dang Zone, pulls past 7k, no problem. It surprised me , jumping to 7 so easy. I have a 406 SBC with a 252/260 at .050 cam that doesn't pull any cleaner that high.

You'll find out at the track it should fall off past 6500, not allot but you will be fastest I assume shifting at 6800ish.

That's why I had to put a shift light on my street machine. Got tired of using the rev limiter to tell me I waited too long to shift.

And not to start and argument but it's also a good reason to run a single plane. These motors like to breathe.

I think on the cathedral port heads, the single plane is fine. The LS3 heads, with a mild build like mine, the dual is the way to go, IMO. If you check the cross section on the LS3 dual plane against the single plane cat head intake, you will see that my dual plane will flow more air and the longer runners help with low end torque with the sewer pipes they call runners on the LS3s. Im not trying to pick a fight either so don't take any of this the wrong way, but Im confident my car wouldn't have 60ed in the 1.7s if I had stayed with the Vic Jr. Im running a very tight converter and need all the low end help I can get. The combo is VERY street friendly, as in factory stock feeling, just with gobs more power.
Cant wait to see what it will do now that its not running out of air at 5K.

Yea, I agree. I am going to try shifting at around 6600-6700 and see how that does. When Tim ground my cam he said it would probably max out at around 6K, but wasn't sure because he also believes, as I do, the heads will carry the cam further in the upper RPMs because they flow so good up top. I know it wont want 7K as a shift point. I am going to set the limiters at 7K on the fast EZ and the MSD box to keep it from reving past that.

I race at Paradise Drag Strip in Calhoun GA usually or Brainerd Optimist in Ringold GA as I'm in NW GA. I've ran at Silver Dollar a few times though, nice track. I usually go down for the Turbo Buick events and run my GN. It's just a RIDE for me lol

Yea ,that's a ride for you ! I live right off I-75 in Forsyth. Its a 40 mile ride for me to SDR, all back roads. Nice laid back drive. I don't own a trailer, so I drive my cars to the track. Its a lot nicer drive in the 72, vrs the 68. The 72 drives like a vette and with the Vintage Air and stereo kicking, its a nice drive through the county. The 68 Camaro has a radical cam, power NOTHING, pizza cutters and back tires that scrap on the big dips in the road.
The funny thing is, if the 72 runs as good as I hope this time, it will be close to as quick at the track. Gotta love new tech and those LS engines!

I forgot to mention the cars weight. I had estimated 3350 without me in it and it came in at 3280 with 10+ gallons of gas in the tank. I had given a little, taken a little while putting it together. Glass hood and all aluminum LS, added BIG sway bars, brakes and subframe connecters. It wound up lighter than a stock auto, small block 72 Camaro from the factory. 3400 dry for stock and around 3200 dry for mine.

Because you are excited to see what it will do, and worried something might be screwed up. At least that's why I cant fill out my own tech sheet when I get to the track, LOL.
They are having the David Ragan Ford Summit series this Saturday, so it looks like the following Saturday will be my next chance. If the weather is good (not raining, the weather is never good for racing in Ga in June) I will be there.

Hopefully going for the redemption tomorrow. Its going to be nasty humid and hot, so whatever it runs, it will have a little more in it on a better day. Looking for an 11.99 or better . I will post up results tomorrow evening, if I make it to the track. Wish me luck!!
