Default What factors into throttle response?

I was watching the video in dmracing's thread. That thing had awesome throttle response. What contributes to such good throttle response? Is it the carb's tune? Engine's compression? Flow of the heads("lazy" L92's vs cathedral or other)? Converter/flexplate combo? Cam/valve events? Ignition timing?
I'm just curious. Most of my motors seem to rev a bit late and lazy.

Almost all of those things will contribute to how responsive it is. Proper carburetion/tuning, free flowing heads and exhaust, and higher compression ratios play a big part.

All the above and the dynamic compression ratio are contributing players . The dynamic compression is basically how well the cam timing events correlate with the static compression.

The carb is the main shabang. The tune. How fast it can deliver the proper amount of fuel and air when the throttle is blipped. From there, the incoming air charge and compression as well as all the spark location and quench. The more effective all that is the more a small or smallish cam becomes really snappy. Then lighter weight components such as valves and lifters and then rotating assembly, then on to felxplate/flywheel and converter/clutch. The lighter the better when making a engine rev. In gear or free revving. Larger cams will wrap faster on the higher revs.

The engine he's talking about is 100 percent stock except for cam and springs. Well intake and carb, too.

It must be my bad carb tuning that's messing up mine. All my combos have had crappy throttle response...my LQ4, LY6, LM7, and my L33. I've used different carbs on them, also tried the different timing pills(even ran full timing from 700rpm). It always seems like a big delay before they realize the throttle has been opened. Kinda have to hit it twice or just hold it open.

Sounds like lazy wide LSA cams, like the factory stuff.

Timing and carb calibration are the things you can control now that the motor is built. Make sure you have around 20 degrees of base timing, make sure you have enough squirter and proper jetting. Get those things right and I bet she lights right up for you.

Something is up because there is no reason for it to be lazy. My car raps up notably quicker than the EFI cars.

I even threw some extra timing in mine about where I stall to on the line, it helped, especially once i got the right squirters. If you have the ls3 heads, they seem to love fuel ALOT!!!!

Ok, I think I'm gonna go work on my 6.0L and see what kinda throttle response it has. Hasn't been started in about 6-8 months + I changed up the carb/intake.

Dangit! I think I just found a good portion of my "fuel" problem. The foam in the cell fell apart. I just thought I had valve float on the topend or something. My pre pump filter is full of this crap. My pre-carb filter should have kept the carb clean, so maybe I can still start it with fresh gas in the bowls.

Lose the foam... I've heard of so many people having that same problem....even before the 10% ethanol.

Yes, I had my cell custom made and they recommended that I didn't have foam put in it
