Finished new P/S pump install, gave her a bath and hit the highway
Oh ya discovered a Camaro/Trans Am graveyard yesterday, picked up stock Black/Silver SS badges & a few other odds & ends.
Drove it! No dash lights, no squealing brakes, no no start issues. Alightment is spot on and new tires have great traction. Even got to puppy kick a new ford fusion turbo that thought it could run from a stop light. LS1 still delivers, I need to get a helmet and take her to Royal Purple drag strip. It's finally delivering on the work I've put into it.
After getting the trans in back from doing the rear engine cover and replacing the clutch slave master and the new clutch line from mcleod I pulled the heads to do a little port work. I had a broken manifold bolt that had an easyout broken off inside that needed to be drilled out on the press and a heli coil installed. Got the exhaust and headers in just need to be bolted up after I get the heads back on but we are getting a freak snowstorm so work has come to halt for a few days. And also got the new short throw shifter installed. I was pretty happy with the bottom end on the motor. I was told it was a fairly fresh rebuild and it looks to be true. All I used was some marvel mystry oil on a rag and this is how everything cleaned up. I turned the crank and inspected all the piston walls and all were nice clean with no scarring or buildup on the piston tops.
I didn't go to hog wild on the heads. I port matched the exhaust ports and poilished to a mirror finish and the chambers opened up a bit with some shaping on the swirl ramps. The intake runners I removed almost the entire rocker stud lump and ported only enough on the walls to remove the ridge where the castings come together then on the advice of a local race shop who has made several race winning LSx engine I polished with 80 grit snadrolls to leave some texture on the intake runner floors close to what cnc ported heads would have.
Damn SLP and their fit and finish..... The smooth bellows went on like a glove....
Thank you SLP.....
Nice to know I just got my volant cai and the slp smooth bellow ready to install this week. I got the new springs installed this afternoon on the heads. Hopefully have everything finished up this week and ready for the weekend.
