Default V6 to V8?

Assuming the same year car will a V8 (and tranny) bolt right up or are there differences? ...tried to do a search but V6 to V8 was too short.

Try the conversions and hybrids forum. They should know.

depends on what year but most of the time you can just buy V8 mounts and it will work. of coarse depending on what year on what else you have to do.

Things you'll have to watch when doing a V6 to V8 conversion include:

-Motor mounts
-Transmission mount and/or crossmember
-Radiator size (V6 is usually smaller)
-Front springs (V6 are usually softer)

And on some Camaros (some second gens at least), the V8's got better steering boxes (faster ratio turning), bigger swaybars, and better suspensions all around. And better brakes too... But that's not really required for an engine swap, but it helps to enjoy the car.

Does an RS have the same tranny as a ss, or z-28? anyone know what type or rear end on the RS, 97'?

The 1997 RS's were just V6 Camaros with the extra skirts and badging.

The V6 trans will not bolt up to a V8.

Most of the time the 93-97 V6 had drum rear brakes and something like a 3.42 open differential (non-posi). I can't recall when they made the switch to disc rears, but I think it was for MY98.

hey man, sounds like you need to do some research...
first try Camaroz28.com

assuming you have a 98+ you can use your rear end, but i would suggest getting an LSD and better gearing

Also you can use your v6 suspension/springs but it is not suggested - front end will sit to low due to heavier motor

v6 tranny will not bolt up due to diffrent bellhousuings

also dont forget
K-member
Computor
V8 dash(gauges)
fuel pump
v8 throttle petal
- there is more ill post when i can think of it

and if you really are interested in this swap try a company called Speedautomotive (they have since changed their name, so you will have to hunt) they will put together a COMPLETE kit for you with everything you need

i have researched this topic extensivley - E mail me if y ou have any questions JOED4640@aol.com

A friend of a friend was thinking about buying my 2001 LS1 engine to put in his 2001 V6 Camaro. I already sold it though so all is cool.

Thanks for the info though Joe!
