Default can ls1 f-bodies be 'numbers matching'?

On a 98+ f-body do they have a build sheet? Can you have a #s matching block? do the heads and tranny have a casting # you can verify with a build sheet or vin? I know how the old cars work but the new ones i have no clue.

Well, some people have said that the VIN is etched into the passenger side of the block and/or the engine serial number should match the VIN:

Thanks, I read those. So apparently you match the block to a vin. But thats it, no casting #s on heads or anything. Is there a build sheet thingy that has the info on it? I dont think there is.

block to VIN# yes, but not axle, tranny, or rearend matches. The "build sheet" would be the 3-code RPO decal on the inside of the driver's side door jamb. That tells every option put on the car when it was built.
