I've only got a 1.5 car garage and my shell takes up alot of that space. So I built that work bench and do all my fab work now in our dining room.

...if you are welding or doing any other type of "hot work" inside, surrounded by combustibles... it looks like you are based on the burn mark on the bench.. for seeming pretty smart, you are incredibly stupid. Between the fire hazard and the air quality... if anything happened.. i don't even know how insurance would handle something like that. I'm far from a safe person but jesus, hot work inside of a living space is stupid, never mind over wood floors, on a wood bench. What is your ventilation like? I hope you don't have a forced air system... your return ducts and air handler will need to be professionally cleaned after your done. The rest of your house will likely need to treated for smoke damage from the welding fumes and such. I really hope youre going to respond to this with some over the top method of fire protection and ventilation.. and that you don't have kids around while youre doing this **** inside. OR tell me i'm the retard and you do all your hot work outside, this please.
The car, the project, what you've done so far, its all amazing and i'm impressed. I'm subscribing because of how awesome your build is and a little bit to see if you burn your house down.

Thanks you for the concern but I do operate in a very safe manner. The burn mark you are referring was gained from a red hot bracket being hammered to a 90. Any open flame, torches, and the mig are used outdoors. I put up spark shields whenever sparks are being thrown (removed for better photos obviously) and I also have a 3 grade fire extinguisher within an arms reach. I weld with fans circulating outside air in and through the four windows in the dining room. Tig doesn't throw any sparks so as long as I'm welding on metal (I have 1/4" bench topper when I weld) there's not a whole lot fire risk.

I don't wanna brow beat you about your workspace, hell knows I've done worse. Rebuilding a chopper motor on the nightstand in some skeezy hotel in Sacramento was probably my best work

However with the little brains I have gained in the years since my youth I will recommend you purchase some renters insurance. It's like $10 a month and has saved me from total ruin a couple times.

Ps lookin good. Keep it up.

Control arm mounts are finished. I kind of dicked myself with a bunch of tight corners and grooves to weld in on this one. Alot of it I had to weld out of position to get everything covered. Definitely improving on my consistency around corners where I previously struggled.

Next up I'll be mounting my rack and deciding on a transmission mount.

Looks good. How much weight do you think you're saving with that piece?

When it's all said and done I'd have to bet 1-2 pounds. The factory Subaru one is extremely flimsy, with not a whole lot there so it will be pretty difficult to come out lighter. I'll be happy if I'm +/- 1 pound from factory.

Transmission mount is nearly ready to be finished up. I'm utilizing a stock t56 mount plate for the base and the rest I did.

Had a close call with the angle grinder today. The wheel skipped off a piece of metal on the table, shredded through my sweatshirt, and wrapped itself into my tee-shirt. Thank fully it only cut into me where the shirt wrapped.
