Transmission mount all tacked and test fit. I'll weld it up after finals and the motor and trans will be sitting all by themselves!

And because valentine's day is coming up I figured I'd go with the stereotypical flower. Just playing around with scrap that I had from the notcher.

After some deliberation I decided my original transmission mount was too flimsy. A new one is in the works once I figure out my notcher again. The harbor freight drill I notch with took a **** finally and I really don't want to subject my nicer one to notching. With my new class schedule, probably won't make it to HF until this week.

I got it started though.

And because my daily is too sexy not to get a picture of

I am confused...what T56 mount plate is that exactly?

98 LS1 Camaro is what the transmission came out of.

So in the quest for perfection I was not satisfied with the look of the transmission mount inside the car. So after much deliberation I decided to cut more of the floor out to make room for a frame rail connector. The transmissions mount ties both frame rails together eliminating any worry I had about twisting the original. I promise this will be the last one.

So mocked up the rear diff today and it's huge compared the OEM rs diff. The cover is coming into contact with the spare tire hump. So, trunk floor is coming out tomorrow along with the rest of the sound deadening

Got the 2nd half of my front subframe in for final test fit. Control arms cycle like they should. Going to order some outer tie rods for that.

Transmission crossmember is in for good. I'm a mediocre mig welder so no close ups, but I have no worries that it won't hold.

And spare tire is gone. Rear differential mocked up. I'm not happy with any of my subframe designs so I can't move any further.

Rear tube of the subframe is cut and notched. Mehh quality photo thanks to my shoddy garage lights.

And my 1.5" notcher lost all its teeth. Time for another.

I'm subscribed young man, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with my swap this week but after seeing yours I'm feeling much better. I wish you and your friends the best in your endeavor.

Glad I could help!

Rear diff support is tacked and fits good. I'll finish up cutting and tacking the remaining mounts together.

Gussets added. Don't mind the points, I'm going to contour them along the radius of the tube when I finish weld them. Now I'm waiting on finding hubs so I can sort my lateral link spacing and mounts.

Are you sure those tabs are going to be strong enough? You're going to have a lot of stress on the whole assembly, I'd be using heavier steel and looking for ways to triangulate the whole thing (though I assume you'll be making this tube part of the whole rear subframe for the lateral link mounts.

Yeah the subframe will be braced once I have hubs to determine my lateral link spacing.

Small update: tie rods showed up early so I got the old ones off and the new ones situated.

Took out the L dash beam and replaced it with the rs beam so I could bolt up my column.

Encountered my first problem with my lower engine placement. The steering joint comes up a slight bit short. Going to cut it at the welds and replace it with some extended one inch tubing.

And the differential fits snug and out of the way. The housing is to heavy to put in by myself so the cover will suffice for your viewing pleasure.

Filling up my argon Monday before class, and hopefully this guy with hubs gets back to me.

Measure the ID of the hole on the back of the spindle where the axle stub normally fits. Hit you parts store up for a core plug to fit. I've done that before on 4x4 spindles that were being gutted out to make a 2wd front axle for a race truck. You may be able to do that on the inner and outer holes.

The svx hubs I'm getting come with axle stubs that will fit my front hubs. They use the same wheel bearing.
Picked up my argon this morning

And did some welding

Plan is to use stock steering rack mounts but I want stock style clamp mounts machined. The stock ones are beefy enough.
