Default ‘92 Mustang Coupe 2.3L to 347 to LS3

I’ll try and let the pics explain it.. I find this clean 4 cyl. Coupe with oversized wheels/tires, real tacky window tint and red velvetine interior on CL in the Central Valley of Ca.

2.3L and A4LD trans sold in a day on CL, I no idea that there were people that wanted this motor. It was going into a Ranger of the same year.

Was thinking IRS swap at one point. This unit is from a ‘15 Mustang V6 base model it’s 8.8 as well, from a local wrecker nearby. The price was maybe too good to let it pass by.

In and out came the left header for steering shaft configuration and clearance issues, hours and hours spent here. Ended up with a Flaming River low profile lower steering shaft to clear the Hedman mid length headers. Eventually the 2.5” ball sockets were cut off the headers in favor of 3” V-band flanges to match the collector and exhaust tubing size. Ball socket seemed restrictive and not too impressed with nut and bolt flanges that secure them, they bend, leak and just plain look bad.

Cool project! Nothing wrong with old Fox bodies that a dose of LS won't fix! And I know the engine will be built right!

Discovered swapping AJE motor mounts left to right with points going forward moved the engine back over 3/4” and this worked perfect for the transmission mount as it lined up perfect on the QA1 crossmember used. The points on the motor mounts had to be cut off if I were ever going to retro fit AC on this car and just looked cleaner with out them. An extra hole was drilled into both mounts so 4 10mm bolts could be used vs 3. It might help with using an aluminum block, maybe not.

Got a 2” cowl hood to replace the stock hood, this actually allows a better selection of intakes and doesn’t draw too much attention with subtle rise.

Pistons were out of the hole by .017 because they have 1.335” CD, .051 Cometic gaskets were used, leaving a quench of .033-.034”

Griffin Foxbody/ LS conversion radiator off eBay for $300 Lincoln Mark VIII 2 speed light weight fan “blows” the 3.0 Taurus fan away. Hose outlets on this rad. are 1-1/4 and 1-5/16? The fbody hoses work perfect without adaptors.
