Looking good.

Is the wiring staying there on the dash. There has got to be some way to condense or hide it a bit.

Looks great man! And so far as the wiring, at least it is easy to get to. It would be easy to swap all that over to a concealed panel beneath the dash later once you are sure that is how it is going to stay.

Get us some videos!

Yeah, lots of options for the wiring but going to leave it for now until I'm sure everything is working fine. This setup is really awesome for troubleshooting though. And you can hear the fan relays click on and off, which is cool.

Action pics and video hopefully this weekend. Going to D-Faction season opener on Friday to learn how to drive again.

Only thing left to do is put on front bumper and mess around with the clutch.

I checked the clutch fluid after coming back to the garage last night since the clutch pedal started going pretty low. The fluid had turned a dark grayish color. The cylinder was still full, so don't think anything is leaking, but looks like water was absorbed by the fluid somehow. So going to drain/refill/bleed clutch tonight and see if it gets any better. Anyone else have this issue?

Also, it's pretty hard to get it in reverse. All the forward gears engage smooth, but I have to push it pretty hard into reverse, and then it "pops" in. And once in a while, it will pop out of gear when I let off the clutch in reverse. I read that this is because of the reverse fork pad getting worn out in the trans? But if that was the problem, I would think it would be hard to get it in reverse even when the car is off. It goes in easily with the car off though.

Great stuff man. After seeing Meng (sp) go all the way to the top 4 at Drift Atlanta in his S13 this weekend and another privateer in an LS6 FC Rx7 (maybe Essa?) and your build have me convinced to build my own car next year!!!!

As far as the fluid and gear thing, could it be exactly what you said on reverse, or maybe the lockout is not getting the proper signal. I dont see how you fluid would dirty up that fast other than maybe a leak somewhere or its passing to close to header/exaust and boiling. You are running an 01+ system?

Im sure the reverse engagement issue is just because of poor clutch disengagement.

Is the slave cylinder new or did you find a used one?

Do it.

Clutch master cylinder, line, and slave cylinder are all brand new. It's a CNC Brakes master cylinder with -4 line to the slave.

I drained it, ran some fresh fluid through it, refilled, and bled last night. I went for another drive. After an hour or two, it was starting to get murky again. After about three hours of driving, it was dark gray like before. I read around some more, and a lot of people say that it's normal for the clutch fluid to get black like almost immediately. Some people say it's because of header heat? But I drove around with no hood last night, and it still turned dark. So still no clue why this is happening or if it's normal.

I wanted to see if the clutch pedal would eventually get soft or go to the floor if I kept driving. At first, it gradually got a little lower but then seems like it stabilized and didn't get any worse. So just going to drive it around like this for now and keep some brake fluid with me in case I need to bleed it again or something. Going to contact CNC about it, and might also try some DOT 5 brake fluid.

Sounds like it might just be getting hot and boiling. You'll know for sure when you make a WOT run through the gears and try to shift to 4th and the pedal stays on the floor. Mine went to crap when I added headers to the car, had to re-route the line back up behind the heat shield. I started using DOT5 AP stuff, seemed to do the trick for me. You may want to look into the TICK adjustable master if the problem continue's. Did your clutch require or come with a spacer behind the slave/throwout?

Called CNC this morning. The guy I talked to said fluid is turning black because there's aluminum dust in it. If the rod is not perfectly aligned going into the cylinder, the side thrust scrapes off some aluminum from the cylinder. He said I can upgrade to a stainless steel lined cylinder, which won't have any issues even if there's some misalignment.

No time for new cylinder now since there's an event tomorrow. Just going to try to adjust the pedal so it keeps the rod as straight as possible through the stroke, fill it up with new fluid and hopefully it will make it through the day. Good thing is I don't think I'll have to shift much... power in any gear!!

I thought it was the header heat at first also. But the line is a decent distance from the headers, maybe like 3 inches away is the closest it gets. Also, the headers are heat wrapped, and I was driving with no hood last night, so hard to believe it still boiled the fluid. (Engine temp was like 160 the whole time... lol.. no fans required!). The pedal was still hard too. I would think it would get pretty mushy if the fluid boiled.

The clutch does come with a spacer to go behind the slave. Not sure if everything is OK with that either, since it takes a lot of clutch travel to disengage the clutch. Maybe the spacer is too small? That's making this situation worse since it's making me adjust the clutch pedal to have like max travel to be able to disengage, which is probably causing the misalignment.

While I'm bitching about a lot of things, is it that hard for GM to drill a damn hole in the bellhousing or something so you can actually see what the slave is doing? Seriously, really serviceable design they got here...

Scared another unsuspecting passenger last night. Took Allan for a ride. He said he was holding on to the roll cage so hard his hand was numb after the ride. Haha. This thing is so awesome.

I was trying to find your car during the break between demos. I think Mel told me you were going to be there. But I got distracted by go go dancing competition.

It will be lower and louder next time. And with wing back on.

I think that's because of the modified knuckles. When you turn full lock, they go really far back in the wheel well. Caster is stock-ish.

Thanks. Hard to believe that it's driving already. Now just have to make it handle such that I don't feel like it's going to kill me if I make a wrong move... lol.

And of course...

lower

louder

Looks like its working pretty good. Throwing some negative camber at it will help alot.
