The 6.0L found in Escalades, work trucks, Silverado SS's and Hummer are going to be iron blocks. They are called LQ4's or LQ9's.

LQ9 has flat-top pistons for a slightly higher compression ratio and 20hp increase, other than that it is identical to the LQ4.

It depends what you plan to do with it. If you're going to replace
the pistons then you don't care. Believe there were some iron
heads on very early 6.0s which you probably don't want. LQ4
heads were sand cast and LQ9 die cast I believe, but no big
differences in flow.

Vans have cable throttle, at least as far along as '03 and maybe
still. Nice if you want a simple swap and no electric throttle to
deal with. Trucks switched over earlier. We used a '03 van PCM
to move to a 100+mm cable throttle body on an '04 Silverado.

A HD truck or van will get you the 4L80 trans and a PCM that
wants to run it without fooling around.

It's my belief that vans are beat on less than trucks, a HD van
wreck is prime pickin's.

05 and up LQ4/LQ9 share LS2 con rods which just happen to be the same as LQ9 rods since it's introduction in 02.

The simpliest 6.0L to get would be a 2001-2006. These have the aluminum 317 heads that flow like LS6 (243) heads but have larger chambers, as well as the 24x reluctor wheel on the crank. This is useful for running an F-body ECM. The 58X reluctor requires a newer ECM out of a GTO (2005-2006) or C6 corvette (2006+). The 2001-2002 6.0L had cable throttle bodies, 2003 and newer have Drive by wire. The LS2 is an aluminum 6.0L with relocated cam and knock sensors from the LQ-series (you can get harness adapters easily though). The LS2 also uses the 243 heads instead of the 317 heads, they are more desireable and yeild a higher premium.

Depending on what you are installing this engien into, will determine what you need to swap (access., oil pan, etc ...)

the 2005-2006 GTO pcm will not control a 58x reluctor wheel motor, it is the same ECM that went into the 2005 Corvette (E40)
