Default G-body swap guys: Which radiator?

Hey guys, I figured since I am swapping pretty much everything else, I might as well get a new aluminum radiator. I was curious as to what would be a direct fit in my 86 monte carlo as well as where you bought it and how much it was. Any info is appreciated . Thanks.

Sam

I don't know about LS hoses, but the aluminum stock radiator from a third-gen F is a nice light, good-cooling rad. I have them in my 86 and 87 SS Montes. The only mod needed is a little tweak of the lower trans. cooler line.

I am using an autozone replacement radiator. 1985 El Camino, direct fit, aluminum with plastic tanks, has a nipple for the TB steam hose, cost right around $100 with a lifetime warranty.

Not a bad deal. How does it handle the cooling and do you guys have any pictures of your set ups?

Yep thats about what mine runs, I don`t think it even gets to 200 degrees. I used the engine driven fan for a while, but then I went electric so that I had room for a full 4" air intake tube. When I went to electric fans I grabbed the fans out of a mid to late 90`s 3800 v6 car as they were about the right width and dirt cheap.

Any pictures or part numbers of these radiators?

G-Body: I would like to see your engine bay and setup if you had some pictures. I get my creative juices flowing if I see someone else's work..

My Dad used the stock LT1 radiator when he swapped to a LT1 in his 85 SS. Everything was out of a 97 Z28. Don't know what/if anything changed with the LS1 F-Body radiator.

Using the stock 3 row in mine. Haven't fired it up yet. Should work fine as others have said it does. As G-body said, it has ports in passenger side tank to connect the TB coolant hose. I don't have the TB hose connected in these pictures, but I used the 1/8 NPT port and a nipple to connect the TB hose. I wanted to run the stock mechanical fan also, but as Gbody has already pointed out, it would not provide enough room for the 4" intake plumbing. I should get that done today. I also used a Ford Taurus electric fan. See pictures:

I`m going to try attaching them again in a minute. I have been trying the last couple nights and they don`t want to attach. The last time I attached pics I was using my old computer which died. The new computer doesn`t seem to want to work.

I know this is an old thread but I have a question about this subject. I have a stock style radiator in my 79 Malibu from Oreilly auto parts and it has the extra port below the overflow port. Does anyone know the size of this threaded hole? i'd like to get a reducer with a barbed nipple and run my steam tube to it.

Thanks, Dan

Got a whole shot of that rad? Sure that's not for the trans lines?
