Ok I have been reading a lot of threads and there is a lot of folks talking about the 5.3 , I purchased the 5.7 ls1 corvette motor I'm just wondering is the main gripe about cost? Or can you get more out of a 5.3 than a 5.7 somebody tell me something I don't know.

5.3s are a dime a dozen, found in millions of trucks, and (mostly) of the iron block variety. So, they're easily found for $200-$300. And they stand up to boost really well. 5.7s are aluminum blocks and found in Camaros, Firebirds, Corvettes and GTOs mostly. They are expensive, but that's about it.

Newb here... I'm about to start my own LS swap into a 72 C10 chevy. I got the engine, trans harness and ecu. The engine came with the dbw throttle body, can I change it out to be a dbc?

Here is my engine...

and what it's all going into..

Yes. You have to repin your harness with 7 wires (3 tps and 4 IAC) Then you will have to check your pcm numbers to see if they support IAC(Iac driver). I found my info for my swap at lt1swap.com, but I'm sure there is a thread here too. then you will have to have your pcm flashed for dbc. There are a couple of other things to be aware of.

1. your intake has crank case vent going to intake and not the throttle body you will have to remove the one from the throttle body and plug it or vice versa whichever is easier.

2. your intake may not have the 3 inserts for throttle bracket, but you can get those from potz performance.

Yes, it can be done. I looked into it before I did my swap, but if I had to do it over again I'd just use the pedal assembly your engine is already setup for. I did a swap a year ago and had hell getting a throttle cable to mate up between the '86 pedal and the '03 LS intake. Just my 2 cents...

The easiest thing would be go back and get the tac module, pedal assy, and harness. It would be pretty much plug and play after your pcm tune.

If I can't go back and get that exact pedal, does it have to be the same year pedal and tac module and harness, or will any other DBW pedal tac and harness work?

Working at a dealership, I see failures from DBW throttle bodies all the time. Both @ the throttle body....and @ the cable. Even on some that aren't very old at all. I rarely see problems from cable actuated throttle bodies.

You will have to know the model and year of your engine harness to get the correct parts, but it may not be specific to just that vehicle. Gm used a couple of different styles through out the years. Since working at a GMC dealership parts department I've seen more tb connectors ordered than throttlebodies. I know there is a service bulletin about them( connector and reduced power).

Looks like you need a dictionary and the ability to use the search function. Sorry to be blunt, but you can not expect to post a massive and open ended question like that and get useful, positive responses. There are hundreds of budget swap threads on LS1Tech. Some addressing single questions, others are complete build threads, including my own. Put your time in searching through the Conversion and Carb'd forums and educating yourself. Then when you are really stumped ask for a little advice. Welcome to LS1tech and good luck with your build!

This is for MeanYellowZ
Are these pictures you've included with your posts currently for sale to whomever has a need for them?
Do you take orders for specific build requirements on the LS1 series engines?
What's the life expectancy of a 5.3 or 5.7 LS1 with 50,000 to 100,000 miles on it? If you drive your vehicle mildly.

My 07 express work van has almost 300,000 on it. oil pressure at idle is down to 30psi but other than that still runs great and doesn't smoke. Just regular maintenance.

I did a Carb SWAP on my C3 Corvette. I believe it is a cheaper easier swap all day the EFI with harness, computer and high pressure fuel system on a older non-EFI car.

I missed 3rd on this VID below - car runs high 10s at 125

They say CARBS don't make Power

Check out www.holley.com they have lots of swap kits for old GM muscle. It really about the engine mounts because you can use the TH350 or TH400 or 4-speed manuals if you wish to stay on budget.

I've got a 1984 chevy with a ls1 motor and 4L60e tranny. I'm wanting to put some autometer gauges. Do I need to buy the gauges with the wiring harness or without? I have a aftermarket wiring harness for the whole truck. Will my wiring harness work for my autometer gauges. Also need to get the speedometer working. Will I need anything special to hook up to my 4L60e.

We'll I've been farting around looking for stuff to do to the motor, considered a carb'd 327 but after some looking around I was told about fun stuff you can do with Fuel injected newer chevy engines. Since I drive a 5.3 now I thought it would be a good motor to look into, so I googled and found this thread and forum! Thanks to this post it made me really want to get it into the 5.3 for my impala, I'll hopefully be posting some motor pics soon!!!!

Thanks again! I really stoked!

We'll after lots and lots of rereading many post like this one my car is done an driving! Love it! Thanks to this thread and Superdave's since those two come right up on google about 5.3's and 66 impala's!

Here is what sometime reading and a few grand built me:
