so if you were going to do a 3rd gen...5.3L which one would be best? how much, many odds and ends would be required? and how big of a PITA would it be to put a 4th gen dash into a 3rd gen..?

I thought someone posted a Step-by-Step article on converting a truck harness for stand alone operation. They tore it down and re-assembled and re-routed the harness for better fit and looks. I plan on running a 2004 5.3 with a 200-4R trans and want to convert from DBW to DBC. I got a line on a 2003 LQ9 DBC harness and PCM, but need to know if it will work or not and any mods required to convert from DBW to DBC

I'm looking into doing a 5.3 swap into my 78 280Z I just picked up. I'm thinking an L33 with a T-56 trans, LS1 intake, rails, injectors, then an f-body oil pan. Anyone think this is a good initial plan or anything to add? Will the truck accessories work with the LS1 intake, rails, injectors, etc.? Anyone out there actually done a swap into an old Datsun. Thanks fellas.

Might have been asked before, but how many can of paint does it take to paint a complete engine? What kinda prep is involved?

I am doing a turbo 5.3 swap in my Camaro. I am running the ls1 intake set up and brackets. What ecu would you recommend running with this combo? It is going to be on a cable throttle-body.

I`m installing a 2000 5.3 LM7 into my 1998 mustang GT, any ideas on where to pickup the motor mounts I need. I am also doing the LS1 intake manifold.

Great thread! Can't believe I spent so much time reading it. It gives me new found confidence when I think about putting a 6.0 in my 93 GMC, and will help me force my idiot brother into putting on into his Dodge Ram.. Hell, if my dad passes out while I have the keys to his car, he very well could get a replacement LS in his 06 Charger (Tiny V-6 base model).. lol

I'd doing a 2000 LM7 5.3L into my 1986 Nissan 300zx, t-56 trans, ls1 intake and accessories, and f-body oil pan. Will also go with a much bigger cam and custom headers and exhaust! Should be a fun little machine!

Default LSx swap information

4/17/2010

Great information on swapping to an LSx style engine. I already had purchased the engine with auto trans, found a harness, peddle and ECM on Ebay. I like the LS1 intake much better than the truck for looks. So far the engine fits in my '36 Chevy coupe project like a glove, and the added insight will help me clean up the looks of the install.
I am so impressed with this engine from writings about it, I pulled my 427 Rat engine and listed it today for sale pulling it from my Flat bottom v-drive. This swap will save me 300+ LBS!, if turbo charged, a 6.0 should net similar HP numbers, and the weight savings will make up for some torque loss.

-Any tips on keeping the connections and ECM dry? or sealed?

Thanks again.

I think this is a great article, I have a 79 c-10 that i want to put a gen3 or gen 4 in. I wanted to have a good idea of what i will have to spend. I think a 400hp 5.3 will run good in my truck, can i do stock manifolds and still make 400hp?

This thread has saved me alot of money I haven't spent yet! Thanks for the writeup.

Now I just have to figure out how to shoehorn one of these and a T56 into a '90 Sonoma.

Alright, so a bit of a complication has been nagging in the back of my mind. Can I use an LS1 ECU and a custom wiring harness with my Truck ('90 Sonoma 2.5L). Any help is greatly appreciated.
