Cool weighed my car today..

well, i thought i would run by the scale today to see what my car weighs.

its an 84 trans am, with all the body kits off an 88 gta, rims etc. has ttops, subframe connects, a ford 9" with a locker, all the seats, and 3/4 tank of gas.

i was thinking it would be around 3400 since that 9" we put in was so heavy, but i guess i was wrong.. turned out to be 3140 thats without me of coarse.... and i havent even done any weight reductions yet!

i still plan...
4th gen seats
plastic ttops
and a/c removal
as well as some other small things.

Nice. i weighed mine at like 3120 with me and a full tank but no back seats. These cars really get up and go when you get them below 3000lbs.

wow, thats light! im not sure what else i could eliminate, i know the a/c removal will be about 40#'s

seats should be 20... i know the ford 9" is about 100lbs heavier than the stock 10 bolt, but thats a good 100lbs

Get a set of the rare aluminum bumpers only available on the 4-cylinder cars, they weigh 40 lbs less.

I added probably 50lb subframe connectors, 40lb traction bars, and huge tires to my car too. Plus my homemade crossmember probably added 20lbs to the chasis too, as well as my inner shock relocation crossmemmber another 20 lbs. You could always get a fiberglass hood and fenders haha. That's my next step.

Yeah that 9" is 100lbs well spent haha.

i just sold a fiberglass hood, they might weigh a few pounds less, but not much....not worth the extra...

i want to keep my car a gta, so the aluminum bumpers wont work, we do have a 4 cly firebird at the junkyard though...anything else rare on it? i know it has a glove box!!

Don't I freakin' WISH it was 40 lbs!!! I found a 4-cyl. Camaro in a local scrapyard, was amazed when I found that it still had the aluminum bumper support. Yanked it off the car, paid my $20 & took it home. When I installed it, I weighed myself holding each one of 'em - the difference was around 9.5 to 10 lbs...

Still, that's weight saved from the very nose of the car (where it's most advantageous), so it's definitely a worthwhile modification!
