Default LS1 in 1964 Impala SS

I'm installing a 1998 LS1/six speed from a Camaro into my 1964 Impala SS. I'm combining this conversion with a frame off rebuild of the SS. I've converted a 9 inch rearend with posi, and am thinking about going to the Air Ride Technologies CoolRide air suspension system. Is anyone else out there doing this LS1 conversion that I can compare notes with?

thanks,

Dave

sounds like a cool project, it should be a much easier swap than into a 1st gen Camaro, more room under the hood!

You could probably use the same engine mounts that I'm using, they adapt the LS1 to standard SBC frame mounts. Brewer's sells them www.BRPhotrods.com

www.ls1speed.com did an LS1/A4 swap into a 1961 Impala, might want to email Tom Izzzo over there.

I already fabricated my own engine mounts, I could have saved a lot of time if I'd known about those, thanks Tony.

I tried Hooker long tube headers from Jet hot, they don't fit. I'm shipping them back today. My next try will be shorties from Speed & Performance, they have a set that sweeps back alot before going down that should clear the lower control arm mount that was hitting the LTs.

Another challenge I have is my alternator (drivers side low) is hitting the Saginaw 605 steering box. I'm looking for a way to relocate it elsewhere. High drivers side requires moving/replacing the power steering pump. High passenger side would work if I remove the EGR (thinking about doing that anyway). Street and Performance wants $788 - $1208 for pulleys/brackets/alternator/PS pump to fix my problem, ouch! Anyone know of a lower cost solution?

thanks,

dave

Why not swap to a truck bracket setup? low ps pump just like the old sbc, alt on top, and u can buy a whole damn 5.3 for cheaper than S and P's damned brackets,

Does the truck bracket setup keep the A/C compressor in the same location as the Camaro setup?

Where would you recommend I look for a truck bracket setup?

thanks for the help,

dave

There was a zoops set up in the for sale forum by grt68goat. Search for zoops and you'll find it.

Sounds neat, I am putting a LS1 and T56 in a 1963 Impala SS. Keep us posted with progress.
