Something a little smaller than usual
Thought this might be of interest to some.
It's the new toy, and I'm pleased enough with it that I thought it deserved a wider audience...
I bought one of these:
A little time with the tape, and a bit of fiddling showed this works out ok:
A little while later I bought one of these:
That, a whole lot of time, metal and effort gave me this:
I can't take credit for doing the work - I didn't build it (and it's clearly not totally finished), but it will be going underneath the car in the first picture after it gets restored.
It's not your usual F-body conversion, but it does fit in there nicely...

iirc it's 55" track width, and I know it's 88" wheelbase.
The whole car is 58" wide and 12' 10" long, and the aim is to have the frame and engine fit underneath an (externally) stock looking body.

Now:
Hopefully, properly finished, it'll look like one of these:
There's not much of the original that will be kept, other than the tag. There's a whole lot of new sheetmetal sitting in a pile next to this thing...

Well for reference, this is how a restored stock frame looks in comparison:
You can see the difference in design, just with the diff mounts:
As an aside, the suspension pieces that haven't been fabbed are all C5.

It's going to be around 2000lbs all up, and with the headers and a tune (say) 370rwhp.
30mpg ought to be attainable - assuming I can keep my foot out of it. So realistically it's unlikely to ever see that sort of economy...
