Matt I have a question on your LS1 brake swap, you used 98-02 fbody calipers and rotors correct? Did you use your old front hubs and rear axles with the old style 5x4.75 axle stud spacing and the same wheels with a 5x4.75 pattern? If so are you still using the 7/16 RH wheel studs but just with a longer lenght? Have you had any wheel wobble or problems with this setup? Considering the 98-02 spacing is a hair bigger and spaced out 5x120 I believe? Thanks Bob

4th gen are the same 5x4.75 pattern. I used longer studs (79 corvette at autozone I believe) no wobble, no vibration even at "elevated" speeds.

yes, ls1 f car calipers/rotors/mounts

my drum hubs had to be turned down a bit to clear the ID of the 4th gen rotors.

it really fell together nicely.. .

Thanks Matt for the response, the reason I was asking is the 98-02 fbody spacing is 5x120mm which equals 4.72" so the 98-02 fbody stud spacing is just a tad smaller than the 5x4.75" on the first gen stud spacing. But the center hub is concentric, on my setup I have just a tad bit difference in the old axle and new fbody rotor, I haven't had any problems so far so I was just wondering how everyone else with the same set up is doing. Thanks Again

How is the radiator attached? I realize it says test fit but what was the final method you used? Im looking into the same swap in my 68 Firebird and am wondering how everyone is attaching the stock ls1 f body radiator to the core support.

I cut 4 little squares in the radiator support (1/2" x 1/2") and then used the factory radiator mountin hooks to clip the radiator to it, then I made a brace under the radiator to lock it into place. If you havent seen the ls1 radiator it might be confusing, I'f youve looked closely at one you should know what I mean. I might be able to dig up a pic if that isn't clear..

if you look closly in the first pic at the core support, there is a blue mark on it right by the radiator. that was a mark from one of the holes. if you look on the plastic tank, there is a little hook facing the engine, there i a matching one going the other way, thats what "hooks" on to the radiator support metal, locking the radiator to it.

yea, I know..I thought long and hard about it. But it was too expensive, esp considering the capability of todays 275/45/17 drag radials. THe wheel wells were almost 400, then narrowed tank/axle/spring relocation (actually i would of done a coil over 4 link if i was that deep) new rims, new tires ect, by the time it would be done It would of been thousands more, and I really am not into the prostreet look, (not that mini tubs would do it but done wrong and it gets that vibe) so for looks and $$, i decided not to do it.

the 275s dont look tiny..

C6Matt,
Hats off to you for taking on something so difficult. I'd love to do it to mine someday, but that's WAYYYYYYYYY over my head.
