Default LQ4/LQ9.....will it fit?

are the dimensions of the LQ4/LQ9 the same as the LS motors? will they fit into a foxbody mustang? if so, what transmission will i have to run? will they mate up to a T56 or will i need to run an auto? would there be hood clearance issues since they are truck/suv motors?

I would run a Car Intake on it..for performance..

the LS1 T56 setup will bolt directly to it as long as it doesn't have the extended Crank/Crank Spacer.

All these LS Engines are the same dimensions.

is there a way to find out which vehicles or years of motors where that would be a concern?

if i understand it correctly the LQ4 came out 2000? and is an iron block and the LQ9 came out about the same time and is an escalade motor? am on the the right track?

Ya..the LQ9 was in the Siverado SS and the Escalade. The LQ4 came out in 1999, and the early ones had a long Crank Flange. Most of them have removable spacers that must come off before you bolt up a Flywheel.

so even if i find one that ends up having the extended crank/crank spacer it will still bolt up the t56 once the spacer is removed?

One with the Crank Spacer, yes. One that actually has the machined extended Crank, no.

are all truck 6.0L motors considered LQ4s or do i need to look for a specific vin code? also, is there a way to tell, either by a number on the block or a vin code, if a particlar motor will have the extended crank? will i alleviate the entire issue if i stay away from '99 motors and only look at motors from later years?

thank you for links. i just came across this one about an hour ago and read through it completely.....AWESOME info here for those of us that are CLUELESS about the GM motors...

http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/te...son/index.html

what i'm not sure of though, is that it looks like a number of the later model GM motors are a "fly-by-wire" setup. would those motors still me useable for an '87 mustang?

Yeah im putting a LQ9 in an 86 F150 that currently has the 302. You will need a pedal assembly and wiring harness from a donor car. Make sure the TAC and TPS pedal assembly come from the same vehicle, and have the pcm tuned. Or you can convert to throttle by cable by changing out the throttle bodies and doing some other small modifications.

check this out.. http://www.lt1swap.com/

has everything for the newer vortec engines
