Default AFR LS2/69 Camaro

I have been dreaming of having a LS motor in a musclecar. So the time has came.

Been taking pics of my progress. Had a mild 355/turbo 350 before. Time for a change. So it will get an LS engine. However, not stock. So I found a new LS2/L76 for cheap and will use that as my base. I worked a long time getting the right specs on the cam to run and sound the way a true musclecar should. I will run a Victor Jr EFI intake with a 4 barrel TB on top with a chrome air cleaner. Coil packs will be hidden and clean Chevrolet valvecovers will be used to give that SBC look when first opening the hood. I also have a built 4L60e going in behind the LS2. Looking for ~550 fwhp/460rwhp when I'm done. Should be a fun streetcar. Enjoy.

The engine is orginally a VVT and DOD engine. It has typical pistons with exhaust valve reliefs from the factory. However, I ran into a piston to valve clearance issue on the intake valve so I rented a tool from a member to cut the relief. Very slick tool. Just put a 3/8" drill on the end and cut! I cut the intake relief .100"

Bullet about ready to go in. Still waiting on an oil pan before I can bolt the tranny up and drop it in.

I bought a Spectre tank with in-tank Delphi high flow pump. It's sitting in the shop waiting for me to install it. Still got to get plumbing ordered for it.

Beings I didn't get a pullout from a vehicle, I'm piecing everything together. It's more painful and expensive this way I will be in need of a harness and ecu shortly because I don't have either. This one will be faily unique because I have a DBC TB, 58x, 4x cam, Gen IV motor with knock sensors down low. I will use a lingenfelter converter box to get the signal to 24x and 1x because there is no ecu that reads 58x and DBC or so I'm told. What company should I use to build my harness?

Frito

Where did you get this Spectra Tank? I just got off the phone with RockAuto.com and they said they don't list it and have no idea why they keep listing it online. He said that he noticed this same thing on 69 Camaro. Go figure.
thanks,

Ordered it from rockauto about 2-3 weeks ago. I had it about 3 days later. It didn't seem to be a problem for the person to locate it. Maybe you need to find a different phone operator.

Went with a TCI flexplate SFI approved. Threw the 4c Circle D converter in my FLT4 trans. Finally got the engine at home for the last time! Looks pretty tough sitting in there.

I decided on Speartech based on the quality I've seen( and hear/read) and customer support.

cool build...nice car...a note on the flexplate...it looks to have a powdercoating on it like mine did...make sure you grind off the powder coating where the converter bolt up and also the six or so bolts that go to the engine...what happens is the powder coating wears away and the bolt will become loose...I learned the hard way too and didn't know that this needed to be done...when I pulled my trans after what sounded like a lifter going...rattling of the flexplate on the bolts...all six motor bolt were hand loose...the plate was barely held on...so I grinded the coating and used some locktite...

^^ Thanks for the heads up. I actually got that flexplate second hand off a friend. So the powdercoat is already wore off in the wear areas. And I do locktite both of those items you mentioned. Should be set. Thanks though.

Which headers/motor mounts/oil pan did you use. Are you happy with the fitment? Ground clearance/steering linkage/steering box clearance all ok?

Jeff, when I was shopping for the right motor mounts and headers for me, I was looking at the headers. I want/need headers that make power and some of the LT's are just for the looks. When I looked at the 1-7/8" BRP (built by Hedman Hedders), I knew they were built for power and not just the look. So I purchased the LT's and the BRP poly motor mounts. The stock crossmember worked very well with little modification. The headers are pretty big and amazingly enough, they clear the steering box very well. The motor mounts were a little bit of a pain, but manageable. I took a bur bit to the frame holes to allow for a little bit of play to get everything to fit right. I used a LH8 pan. It works very well with the BRP kit. It probably is 2" below the subframe. It is not the correct pan to use with a lowered car, but it will never be a problem on my stock ride height car as I'm not a fan of a lowered muscle car. The steering linkage clears the LH8 pan with no problems, lock to lock. I'm pretty happy with everything I've bought so far... I think it's going to be a pretty nice setup.

Pulled my sending unit out of the tank. Figured I would post up a pic of it. I believe I'm going to cut off the goofy SAE 45 degree fitting off and weld on two -6AN fittings.
