Exclamation Mcleod bellhousing/T56 Heads Up !

If any of you guys are thinking of going with Mcleods SFI bell for your LS/T56 project, here is a heads up. The motor plate will NOT fit flush against the block due to the protrusion of the oil pan where it meets the block. You will either have to slot the motor plate for clearance of the pan protrusion (which will negate the bells SFI rating) or grind down the oil pan flush with your motor.........NOT!!!!!!!!! The grinding option was suggested by Mcleod. There is nothing in the generic/all model inclusive instructions that come with the bell to alert you to this problem. Also check with whomever you order your Mcleod modular bell from to make sure they give you the correct Metric bolts and not the SAE bolts. Trying to save you guys from the headaches I have encountered.

I bought a used one that already had been slotted. I don't really think it decreases the safety factor. It's the steel heavy guage bell area that's protecting your feet.

I doubt there is any safety decrease as well but I believe that technically the SFI rating is compromised if it is altered. They probably just figure that most people who need an SFI bell, don't use a stock pan.

Yeah it would depend on the tech guy really. Also of note is for this particular alteration, your average tech inspection will never see that.

Quicktime makes an LS/T56 specific bell but I have never seen what their motor plate looks like or how it conforms to the LS block...........

How close did the bolt holes match the block on the Quicktime? Did Quicktime give you the right metric bolts? On this Mcleod bell, I had to open up 5 out of the eight holes to get the bolts started through the motor plate and into the block, then had to do the same with the bell bolt holes.....also enlarge the starter opening.......
