@Chesk I'm a newbie here, in the planning stages of putting a 4.8/4l60E in my '54 3600. The 3600 frames are different in the rear half of the frame, but the front is nearly identical to the 1/2 tons. I've got a couple questions for you if you don't mind.
1) What headers/exhaust manifolds are you running?
2) Do you have any detailed pictures of the steering column area? (preferably a front view showing header clearance to steering box area)
I'm attempting to keep my truck on stock suspension/ride height, and would LIKE to keep the stock steering column, but this seems to be a major sticking point with v8 swaps. I'm not totally opposed to the Saginaw power steering box, but then that means modifying the steering column, etc, and I'd /prefer/ to find a header solution that lets me keep the stock column/box. It looks like from your pictures that your headers may clear the driver side frame rail by enough to make that possible. Appreciate any additional info you could provide!

1.... I used the stock headers from the lm7 engine, I just modified them
2..... I installed a helix independent front suspension
I separated the flange of the tubes from the headers and re-welded with the tubes more inclined towards the engine to fit in the frame. I also made a small notch in the header where the steering column axis is

What a great response! And that's a genius solution. I'm definitely interested in low buck solutions and the angle alteration is the perfect application of that strategy. Appreciate your pictures! I'll exploring this route for sure.
