They are very very strong. Ive heard they are rated to 1000 hp, but to me thats not a rating. It would depend entirely on the load, weight and traction.
Some of the ss silverado guys have run them with nitroused procharged 427's around 1000hp. They are sure alot stronger then most transmissions. I got a rossler 4l80e for my conversion van. Itll be a decent test at 7000 lbs.....and maybe 800 hp.

np3 is the np149 transfer case which is a viscous coupler style one. the nr3 is the borg warner awd case. the np149 is the more desireable one for performance. i doubt they are interchangable without replacing driveshafts

Interesting thread. I have F+R 2006 Corvette suspension, a built LS2, a built 4l65E and a TBSS transfer case... thinking an aluminum frame and a front differential with a 5th gen Camaro rear to go along with a 34 Chevy body I have kicking around. I want to do "bigs and littles" as I have a set of 21/20" Forgelines off my Vette. Light weight, AWD with 560ish hp built to rev should be a lot of fun with paddle shifters and good brakes.

This might sound really out there, but.......Anyone ever done an AWD conversion on a non AWD vehicle? I understand their would be alot of fab work (67 Chevelle) but it would really help hooking the car up. (DR's all the way around) I was thinking S10 box and acle up front. Can these be modified to handle the power of my TT402??
Any info would be apprecited! Thanks!!

There's a guy on this forum doing an AWD build of a 67 Cougar. Hasn't had any updates in quite a while, though. I think he sourced the engine/driveline stuff from a Buick Rendezvous, or Rainier (whichever one was the Trailblazer clone).
