63 belair ls conversion,supercharged!
been poking around this site for info for years thought I would share the build of my 63 belair . I am a hobby builder with big dreams of building 10 super rodz out of my home shop.please feel free to give me your tips, sugestions and comments on the build.there are more picts. on my website that my bro. created for me. www.erodzcustoms.com we will be designing a better site soon so stay tuned for more changes.
this is the starting point of the build.car came just like this.
serious changes to be had.
the car was eqiped with a 350/350 combo theese picts were after removing the drive trane to paint the motor bay and freshen the motor and drive it. until I was bitten by the ls bug. drove the car for about two weeks before deciding to sell the drivetrain and use the 5.3 combo that I had just purchased for my wifes car. after doing more research and pulling another ls motor apart I was blown away on how well built the ls motors are and decided to sell all my big and small block stuff and dive head firt into the world of ls motors!
ok so that was a wast of time to paint the firewall and pretty thing up but oh well.

63 belair custom
after mocking up the motor and tranny about a dozen times I machined a set of custom adapter mounts to accept a set of off the shelf poly motor mounts for a sm. block chev.and decided the motor needed to be lower.swapped out the truck pan for a f body pan, pickup and windage. started looking at the front drive acc.set up and after deciding that the motor is really ugly with the truck intake. I picked up a ls6 intake then found out the front drive set up for the truck was not going to work.ended up with a corvette front drive system.I custom made the brackes for the a/c comp.
ended up taking about two and a half inches out of the crossmember to drop the motor down far enough.
decided at this point to make the car stear and handle better so stumled on a rack and pinion that steered from the center. ha this was just what the doctor ordered.

more belair fab
after geting to this point decided to fill in the firewall and smooth thing out. then after really looking at the orig x frame this needed to be beefed up to stop the twisting and flexing.decidided on adding a primeter frame as well as the orig. x. fabbed up a pair of theese.

You couldve kept the truck accessory drive with the LS6 intake. Speartech sells the neat little piece that wouldve given you the needed clearance by the throttle body on the LS6 intake. And if the alternator was still too high, then you could've ordered one of those neat little kwikperf.com alternator brackets that would've positioned the alternator how it sits on the Corvette accessory drive. That would have saved you a nice little penny.

there was more than one reason to go that route.the balencer set back was also an issue. I did not like the idea of the supercharger pulley hanging out so far on the crank.and it just worked better for the charger location.thanks for the info on the speartech part though.

started mocking up front acc. and fabricating the supercharger.the charger is a powerdyne. my goal for this build was 400 hp to the rear wheels and 20 mpg. I want to drive the car alot so mpg's are important too.
machining of the supercharger brkts. and a/c comp.
came out and the kid said he would help me put the motor in and we don't need a stinking hoist.lol.
had to grind just a little bit of the alt.p/s. brkt.to clear the a arm.fabbed up a p/s res. cover.
every thing mocked up and bolted in!

thought the front of the car was made for an intercooler. so cut all the piping apart and started this install.
loos like it was sapose to be here.
made some fixtures to hold all the pipe togather while welding. it worked awsome.
here is all of the pipe welder togather and it all fits great.
