Default maf

This is my adaptor and ls3 maf. The adaptor is designed to be welded into a four inch tube. Both have gm part numbers if you are interested and special tuning is needed to run them. Since I am getting a chassis tune, this is included. I am waiting until the car is reasembled before I put together the fresh air intake. For now, I removed the maf tube from the van which is only about 70mm and installed it straight onto my throttle body. You can see it in the video.

Thanks for the info. So the new valve covers are different. Looks like back to the dealer for me. I may need to change the cover if I can't get a cap or tube to work.

I do have a question for you on the mass air. Did you buy an adapter to mount it? I looked at mine today and the rubber mount attached the MAF is on the wrong side for air flow. I was going to just stick it on to test fire the engine but will end up buying the proper piping and finish the air intake prior to running it.
Thanks.

The Maf tube that I removed from the van has an airfoil shape device running through it. The back of the airfoil is open. I mounted it with the open end at the back and happen to have a rubber coupling on that end that fits my throttle body. I made the assumption that this is correct but I might be wrong.

I just noticed something..... You engine is a LY6, but you are running a cable drive TB? What computer are you running? Did you swap out the reluctor or is it still a 58X reluctor?

It's all gen 4 stuff. E38, dbw, gen 4 harness(VVT and dod compatible), full authority over 4L80e. I removed the VVT and had a comp cam installed with supporting mods and custom tune.

I believe you are looking at the pic of my engine. Futureuser is using a DBW.

There is an air flow direction arrow on the MAF. I was just wondering if that had something to do with your engine not staying running the other day or if it would really matter either way.

Thanks! An easy thing to try next time. I'll be happy if this is the solution.

So it should look like this from the front on the air filter side? Everything about it looks wrong from the airfoil being backwards to the screen being on the back side to those probes, but what do I know. This is just to get it running.

If yours is like mine then the open side goes towards the intake and the screen will be visible from the outside facing away from the engine. Look on the outer perimeter and there should be some script that says "FLOW" with an arrow pointing the direction of air flow.

I had the factory rubber peice on the back originally between the maf and throttle body. I just flipped it around and siliconed it in. It looks wrong now. I guess I'll flip it back around. No arrows to go by.

Per request I took some pics of the valve cover and cap. Mine has just one tab in it. I am unsure of which covers you have. Now to figure out which tab to grind out.

Thanks for the picture. It looks like I can grind off the larger tab, but I better make sure it's the right depth.

If you need me to measure the depth of mine I can. It will be tomorrow before I am going back out there though. Getting pounded by storms right now.

I decided to run my existing radiator. It is getting cleaned and the truck aluminum driveshaft is being shortened. I hope I measured right. The rad is widened, so I can run dual fans, which I already have wiring for with the painless harness. Finished the power steering lines and used a remote resevoir since I needed a type 2 style pump with the quik bracket. SInce that was done, I was able to reinstall the front clip. I did some stripping and painted it with POR15. It's a little glossy for my taste, but it should last a long time.

Dakota sent me a replacement adaptor free and fast. They are great to deal with. My computer should have been back by now, but was shipped ups.

Seems as if you will be on the road sooner than I. Looking great man! I have been hit with too many projects to continue on mine for the next couple of weeks. Front clip looks nice on there.

The shifter is in and hitting all the gears, I think. Transmission filter changed. Temp sender fixed.

I'm thinking this is going to be the home for the modules and fuse box. I'm thinking about getting rubber mounts from grainger and mounting on the front of the inner fenders. I was going to go inside, but there just isn't much room, and I haven't installed a/c yet. I moved the battery to the trunk to free up room for a cold are intake on the other side. Interesting to read the arguments about moving the battery. My opinion is a little extra maintenance and making sure there is no acid damage is worth the probable performance gain.
