only conclusion i can come up with is,weak piston from the factory...all the bearings look good,no signs of detonation, everything looks like brand new except for that one piston....it looks like someone hit it with a sledge hammer....lol

Hey, billy. Since you're just doing this for fun (I think)....would you try something for me,if you can? I've got an old HOT ROD MAG (Feb. '05) that compares the EDY dual plane to a GM single plane with 3 different cams on an LS6 engine. Cam 1 is stock ZO6..#2 is 228-232 on 112 lsa..#3 is 228-232 on 110 lsa. The dual plane hangs with all by quite a bit up to 5500. But here's the thing....they try several different spacers on both with very little gain on the single plane but they say a 1" open spacer made a bunch of difference in the mid range on the dual plane. I'm hoping you might have one to try. One other thing...all of the cams had their torque peak around 5000-5500 RPM. If you have 4.1 gears and 28" tires and you're going 100 mph in the 1/8 mile, you should be in that range depending on convertor slippage. Wish I was there!!! Ron

Billy,
I am following this close. I still haven't gathered enough parts for my engine yet so I have been keeping an eye out for your posts to see how you do.
I would really like to know what a pair of L92's that have been milled 30 would do with the stock setup and Z06 cam.
I ended up with a pair of nice L92's that have already been milled and have 660 lift springs. What sucks is my motor is a 99 6.0 with the dish pistons, I am sure this is going to hurt the performance. I still need to get a set of ARP rod bolts and new head bolts.

thats a good question about the small cam and a set l92's...i've heard people say with the size of the heads that it will hurt the low to mid range performance...but if you got a loose converter it really does'nt matter...my motor is dished piston also....i'd like to try a set of l92's with a bigger style cam...but i think a set of 799's or 243's would be a better performer for a street style car with a smaller cam...imo

This one I hate to post. Iwas WRONG about the #799 head.
I was just sure the chamber was smaller than my #243 heads, butwhen I checked it yesterday, it came out within about .6 of a CC of the chamber I had checked on my ZO6 head. So... apparently they are basically identical to a #243 small chamber 65 CC head. My bad!! Ron

Billy,
What I would really like to see is what your old cam (motor that blew) in the stock 6.0L with the dish pistons and a set of .30 milled L92 heads would perform like.
I am having a hell of a time trying to figure out exactly what cam to go with in my setup. It will be a track only drag car, around 2800-2900lbs, th-350 manual trans, 4.10 gears and 28x10.5 M/T slicks.
All I want to do to the stock short block is flycut the pistons if I have to, swap out the rod bolts for ARP's.

Only reason I say that is i;ve tried diff combos on my stock bore 6.0 and this is what I got the most out of, although my f body is 3199 w no driver in it. 4600 converter, 28/10.5, 4.86 gear(too much gear).
my cam is a cammotion custom grind 249/252 .620/.612 108+4
