Default Lq4 powered 1977 cadillac coupe de ville

First off i must say this site is f**king awsome!! I have a 1977 cadillac coupe de ville on which im am about to embark on the journey of retro-fitting a 6.0L engine out of a 2003 yukon XL. I will be keeping the beefed up th400 that i already have in the caddy, my reason for wanting to do this is for the Gas mileage, driveabilty and of course the COOL factor. I should have some pics of the car up in the next week or so to keep u guys updated on my build....

If your looking for any kind of gas mileage. I would swap in a 4l80, it'll give you overdrive and be plenty strong. Then just sell the th400.

With stock 2.xx rear gear, he'll be fine on the highway at 70. I think some gears were as numberically low as 2.28:1. I bet they're not over 2.73s. Using 2.73 gears, no OD, and stock size tires (27.5" overall diameter), he's looking at under 2400 rpm at 70. If they're the rediculous 2.28s, it's under 2000 rpm at 70!

I thought about switching out the th400 for the 4l80, but im thinking it will be too much money for me at this time. Im goin to try and do this on a budget, and here is a pic of my car.

Nice project. I am in the process of putting a 4.8 Vortec with a 4l60e into a 1987 Brougham.

To me it will be a big challenge since I don't have much mechanical experience so it will take long while until the project is finished. I have the engine and transmission and I just started disassembling everything in order to take the engine and transmission out.

I am expecting that the biggest problem to be with the automatic climate control.

It was not only the boost in power that was the reason behind my swap but also the mileage. So I will probably keep the engine stock, no modifications.

im the same way, my mechanical know how is limited. i got a buddy to help me out thats a mechanic. The gas mileage alone is definitly enough to do the swap, but im doin it also because this is my daily driver and i luv my CADDY!!

Might be tough. You replied to a 8 year old thread, and the OP hasn't been here in years.
