no i know there are 2 tanks-- to clarify i was asking about the "conversion " tank and if the revised one is decent enough for a driver car..
i have a stock tank that i can do the ford pump conversion to--i will buy the spectra conversion tank IF it is decent enough to use. save me some work...
car was originally going to be a 396 car so bought the stock replacement tank-- decided to change directions - got a ls2 with 25ooo miles and now gathering parts to do the install.. BB for sale with a blower..

I have yet to starve the newer tank, but I did the older one. I have definately hammered it on a 1/4 tank but probably not much less than that. It works fine, but the only difference between it and the older design is an extra baffle in the pick up bowl. This tank will save time and money but it is a compromise. Also, like Tony said, I used a Walbro pump. Tony's tank is superior and could be driven hard on empty. If you guys have more questions about the spectra, feel free to ask on my thread. I don't want to pollute Tony's thread anymore with this spectra filthe.

Here is a link to the pan I used. Be forewarned that the crossmember may have to be notched to make it work. Moroso offers an oil pan that doesn't have as deep of angle but is limited to a specific windage tray. Scroll down to see the other pan with a flatter front portion.

I am using a custom ground Comp Cam spec'd to my new combo. The lift is .631"/.657" on a 115 LSA.

Tony,
So what compression and cam did you go with on your new motor?
thanks,
Jim

The compression is around 11.25-11.50 and the cam has a lift of .631"int/.657"exh on a 115LSA the duration is split quite far between the intake and exhaust. The LSA and low duration produce great idle characteristics. The vacuum is at 15 inches where as before with the 6.0 (9.4:1) it was around 4inches.

Glad you asked! I have approximately 450 miles on the new engine. I am taking the car to PCMforLess this coming week for the driveability and dyno tune! Finally!!! The car actually runs good as is but I want to squeeze a little more out of her, get something on paper (hp), and maybe pick up a few more miles per gallon. People ask me what I expect to get mpg with the 408 stroker and I am like around 20 to the beach. They laugh and walk away shaking their heads. I was averaging 15.8 per gallon the other day after about 100 miles of driving. About a third of that was driven with no regards to fuel efficiency! I hope to average 20mpg using my head. Maybe more on long trips. Its just so damn tempting to step on it though. Its like opening a beer and not drinking it, what a waste!!! The good thing about the 408 is third gear starts. I have done this twice accidentily already without green horning it and not realizing it till after the fact. Top speed in third is all I need in that old *** car! 3.42 rear gear, 26.1" tall tire, 1.3:1 third gear ratio and 7,000 rpms is a deadly mix on the streets. Maybe I am getting older but that car scares the **** out of me. No way in hell is 4th gear getting the same treatment as third.

I used to not be afraid of anything but it seems reality has set in on me! Having teenage kids driving will make you look at the road from an entirely different perspective! The 408 is almost too much with the suspension and tires I have on my car at this point. I guess if I drove this car everyday it would seem the norm but I drive an 02 Honda Civic as a daily driver and its night and day! How is the engine rebuild going? Sorry for your troubles!!!

Sounds like a blast Tony! I'm glad things are coming together for you. My TA with a T56 and 4.11 gears will do 90+ in 3rd gear, so I can only imagine you're well into the tripple digits with 3.42s! It's funny you mention the caution with age thing. My buddies and I were just talking about that the other day. We're not as invincible as we used to be....LOL. Unfortunatly we see this with young Soldiers all the time. Being young makes you feel invincible enough, but after a year in combat, many of them come home feeling bullet proof and usually engage in high risk activities to regain a rush......and it rarely goes well.
I know what you mean about the handling of these old cars too. The slightest imperfections on the back roads around here make mine handle like a bread truck anyways.....let alone adding it some speed to the mix. I've had a few white knuckle experiences with mine already.
Anyway, I'm glad to hear you've got enough miles on it to take it back in for a dyno flogging. That just means you've been out enjoying the car as you should!

Tone,
Congrats! Sounds like summer fun!... to hell with worrying about MPG!
Yeah, getting older does suck, mortality and all.. but this is a great time in our lives when we get to build our dream cars from yester-year!
Again, thanks for all the hard work and great posts on your build! You have definitely sent me in the right direction a few times! Now get that bad boy on the dyno and let us see what it can do!

Yes, same here. Going from a Toy Corolla wagon, to the Camaro, is like getting shocked.
Yesterday, some young guys were behind the Camaro, as ol' grandpa was putzing down the road. They were a little irritated with my lack of speed and yelled,
"HEY, STOP DRIVING LIKE A PU$$Y!"
The engine is all rebuilt, and seems to be back to form. Most importantly, oil pressure is great. I'm still seeing some very small flecks in the oil. This could be residual material from before. I'm keeping an eye on it.
Thanks for asking, and enjoy the result of your hard work!
