Default Turbo 4.6 bird

I've been thinking about this for a while and by staying on a budget and using what I have I think it will make a pretty respectable yet unique car. I have a 95 firebird originally a 3.4 with a t5 behind it, I bought the car for 100 dollars less engine and trans. I have a 4.6 mod motor, 4r70w 2wd trans, harness and computer, and a 64 mm schwitzer turbo with a 1.05 a/r, and a full exhaust shop to work with. I know this will make a lot of people mad but like I said I'm usingwhat I have. The car also has 3.23 gears. I'm just seeing what y'all think and maybe what kind of power and times it might make/run

I would have to agree on selling the 4.6. Sell it and buy a V6 and boost that or maybe try to get a LT1 or something like that.

Keep in mind that 4.6 engines are W I D E and under hood space in an F Body is at a premium. Beyond that, good luck - nearly anything is possible, not necessarily practical. but possible.

That's the only thing I'm worried about is the width
And maybe the exhaust routing

Definitely ditch the 4.8 and find a S/C 3.8L and T5.

You wont be disappointed. That is something not commonly done in a 4th gen. Most people ditch the 3.4 for the v8 if they are doing a swap.

3800 SII's are cheap and plentiful and so are the T5's.

I agree with what was said is those mod motors are big and fitting it in an fbody with amount of useable space will be a pain, def not worth the hassle for what you get. Do a 3800 and boost it or go lsx, both are better ways to spend your money.

I wouldn't do a V6 - It can easilly be done, but you really don't get a lot out of them unless you put a ton of money into it. I'd find an LT1 with a few miles and use that as your starting point.

You could probably sell that 4.6 for more than you would have into a complete 5.3 pullout and buy a new cross member for it.

you could probably sell that 4.6 for enough to buy my 5.0/t5, fwiw

i dont have a problem with anyone 'ruining' a 3.4 bird with a ford motor; but id definitely go a different way with it.

x2 about the width/modability/reliability of a mod motor vs another small block, 3.8, etc

I know the motor is wide and you'd think fitment might be an issue but the way the motor is set up the exhaust manifolds are tucked down in against the motor. Plus with the plugs being in the top there wont be and issue trying to get to them. I say give it a try.

Well I'll do some measurements soon and we'll see, it pulls my 5200 lb truck around pretty good , and I also hear they respond to boost really well

yeah, a lot more $ to do stuff like a cam swap (obviously), but terminators come from the factory as boost monsters... i know the earlier cobras (99-00?) and same year (03/04) machs had essentially the same forged internals, just no blower. I know this is on a budget, but if you want to be safe it could be an inexpensive way to strengthen things

sure doesnt belong on tech, but youre getting more draw than my 65 stang with an ls1, so you might as well keep us updated

Well I will keep you updated as soon as I start lol I'm pulling the 4.6 out of the truck tomorrow (it's getting a 5.4 swap) so it should go together pretty quick
