Took a drive around the neighborhood with the new driveshaft. Its so silky smooth. Must have had some vibration with the junkyard rear section that I threw on last fall with my original shortened front section. Didnt feel like it was vibrating but this one is smoother right away. Plus the jy rear section was 1.5" too short so it didnt slide onto the front section all the way. Also did a quick open cutout down a side road. 3/4 throttle short shifting at 4500rpms and it sounds great never actually ran it with the cutouts open besides idling and yea feels way quicker then the 100 shot 4.3 which was 13.8@102 on drag radials. Tractions not too horrible anymore still wouldnt try launching in 1st on street tires but didnt have a problem just now getting on it in 1st from a roll. They did just pour new cement on the first 250ft and hopefully they repaved the rest since it was getting so rough. But there wont be any rubber down on the new starting line and I dont know if they spray and traction prep down or not.

New shaft fits perfectly, A snug 1/4" out of the trans and the rear section slide right in place like a glove.

I just found this thread this week and spent several days going through each post.

When you put your VVT-2 cam in, did you reuse the TTY cam bolt/valve? I didn't see a new one in your parts, but I don't know if it was just skipped over..

Did TSP recommend the Valve swap and Spring selection?

Great build thread..

I reused it. I couldnt find any informantion about it to know that it was tty so I reused it and torqued it to something around 50-60 ft/lb. Havent had any problems. I bought the cam and spring package from TSP along with a bunch of other install parts so I used the springs and pushrods they recommended.

Just read through the entire thread. I had taken some glimpses at it on s10forum but finally had the time tonight to read it through. Great build thus far and awesome dog man. I was just cringing at the upper control arm bolt to primary clearance. It sucks when something simple like changing the control arm gets so difficult like that. Anyway keep up the good work and videos, looking forward to future updates.

I question whether or not the phaser is actually TTY. Most of what I've read says to replace it, but without any specific info on why replacement would be necessary. I'm glad to hear yours is working okay after R&R. I will probably replace mine as insurance per the GM guidance. Going to the LS3 valves was probably a good idea. Anything to relieve valvetrain stress is good!

Glad the driveshaft is showing a noticeable improvement. Usually you swap these things in and see nothing because the function is the same as before, just more reliable.

Also I must say it sounds wicked with the cutouts opened up!

Dont feel like posting pics of the slips tonight but the runs were along the lines of best 13.13@113.3 with a bogging 2.2 60ft and then I spun through 1st badly towards the end of the night ending up a worst of 13.7@114 2.60 and 14.8@111.6 2.7 60ft

Best 60 I got all night was 2.1 I would either launch at 2.5k and it would grab like a **** and bog down or I was launching at 3k+ and just spinning. Needed feather the clutch instead of just dropping it but I wanted to just get a baseline. I try more stuff next time I go there. Spent a lot of time discussing my engine swap since there arent many ls swaps around here yet. Only s10 with one there.

I wonder why its being a dog down low. Maybe you should have a professional tune it. You should be a lot quicker than that I'd think. Did ya at least have fun?

You should datalog any testing runs with your HPT scanner, otherwise it's just guesswork.

You'd be surprised how many people don't go WOT because of all the anxiety at the track and trying to launch but not spin a 6sp manual...

I datalogged every run and saved them. Bogging was from too much traction and not enough power or rpms so it dragged the rpms down to 1900 or so and slowly took off with a slow 2.1 60ft. Then i tried launching at a higher 3.5k but tires wouldnt hold that and just roasted through 1st. Need to find the sweet spot and maybe feather the clutch some. Plus it was 38* out so the track was pretty cold.

Do you remember what the valves cost? Did you get a valve job when they were installed?

Keep up the good work and pics coming!

Would you mind making the scans available ? One thing I'm interested in is using the VVT tables for a launch control .. I have the vvt2 cam also, but I'm still far out from getting my build finished.

Some pics from last night.

I was car 815 always right lane.

Tried to upload my hpt file but all my files are around 2mb while ls1tech will only allow up to 1.24mb hpt files. Are you on hptuners forum?

They were around 25-27 bucks a piece. All I did was lap them in.
