Iam doing an s10 lq9 swap i have a guestion i really need some advise motor mounts iam using are ajustable. I should try to center my motor in the frame right? I thought i should at least iam trying to. Is it very critical how i do this? Right now its a little over a 1/4 inch from being center. I am measuring center off inside of fram and off the front crank bolt. My mounts are cpw ill try to get pics up i have them on the camera but dont know how to put them up on this site. Thanks for the help

Current Performance has a set of poly mounts that work great. That's what I have on mine. I'm putting together the fuel system in my '96 right now. It would be easier if I had used the stock tank but I wanted a tank behind the axle for added weight at the rear. These trucks are notorious for not hooking even with caltrac bars and ET streets.

caltracs still don't solve the traction issue?

My MCSS has the engine sit about 3/4" to the passengers side..the S-10 has pretty much the same front end as a G-body.
I think it's to balance out the driver's weight.

^^^This. So long as the trans is centered and is SQUARE, along w/correct driveshaft/pinion angles, you are good to go.

The mounts are different BECAUSE the frame is NOT symmetrical.

FWIW, Cal-Tracs have put Bobby Flippen's 1st gen in the 4's if I'm not mistaken. Something like a 1.13 60" time too. He runs sliders I believe, but there are PLENTY of folks running shackles and hooking S10's with Cal-Tracs, weight transfer, and simply dialing the set-up in. You cant just bolt them on and jerk the tires.

BTW not all cars have the motor centered in the car I know of a few cars that were designed with the motor off set from the manufacture often to clear the steering shaft

That was my point...they won't just hook even if you have sticky tires and traction bars. Some people think just slapping on a set of bars and some tires will solve all their problems. A bone stock LQ9 is going to be a beast in an S10.
