Default Ly6 Engine

I have been looking at Ly6 engines lately and they are quite cheap used and make a good amount of power. I was thinking that it would be a good engine to use in a 1970 Camaro I plan on restoring does anyone know any details on this engine and what I would need to make about 475-525 rwhp with one. Any comments are welcome. P.S Must keep fuel injeted

(I was thinking fast 102mm intake,102mm throttle body, cam, ported heads, bigger injectors, something to get the compression ratio up, good tune,)

Pull the VVT stuff, replace the timing cover and cam gear with LS2 stuff, cam, headers, LS3 intake and basically you have an iron LS2 on 'roids. You already have the L92 heads which will make you a ton of power. Just match it with the appropriate cam and you have low 12s/high 11 sec car all day long. You don't even need the 102/102 fast stuff. If you get yourself the computers from a donor you can run the 90mm LS2 throttle body and get yourself an LS3 intake off here. Your power goals are easily achievable with factory stuff.

I would upgrade rod bolts as a precaution and possibly flycut the pistons if you are planning on running really high lift.

BTW, this is an LY6 in my '69 442 build:

Default my ly6

I've got an ly6 with Texas Speeds vvt-2 cam, LS3 intake and shorty 4th gen camaro headers and a single 3 inch exhaust, with a marginal tune it made 397hp 392 tq to the wheels. Im happy with it and it still gets 25 mpg!!

So I have also been looking and saw that a lq4 is the same engine but dosent have the l92 heads so do you think I should buy ly6 and remove vvt or just put l92 heads on lq4

and with either engine what mods should I be expecting to do to make about 475-550 at the wheels ?

I think your numbers could be acheived with an LS3, but are a little high (at the wheels) for an LY6, unless you're going to bump the compression too or run a power adder. The fast intake throttle body setup will help get you there, but are not worth that much money for the power. The LY6 could be a better blower motor because with it's 9.6:1 compression and that will definately get you your 550wrhp.

My opinion is based on second hand information.

Regardless of RWHP, I have seen this motor in a heavy 3700+ llb '69 Chevelle running LOW 11s with an LY6 and was still very drivable.

Take it for what it is worth...it honestly depends on what your goals are and power numbers on a dyno don't really determine track performance as a whole.

How many lbs of boost could you put to an LY6 with 9.6:1?
