Default Hooker Header Alignment sleeves? Anyone use them?

So im going to coming up to fab'ing my headers very soon. I stumbled across these a while ago, and figured they would make life a hell of alot easier. I bought a set and will be trying them out.

http://www.jegs.com/p/Hooker-Headers...63776/10002/-1

I was just curious if anyone has actually used them before. Any tips or tricks to them, or are they as simple as running a tig torch over them to melt the filler/sleeve?

Glad you like it! I know they will make my life easier. And my welds will look amazing, atleast before i heat wrap them.

I've made several sets of headers with them with good results.

But if your fit-ups look like the ones in the picture above - don't bother - it is going to look buggered together anyway. It looks to me like he's trying to get a decreased radius bend by piecing it together with cuts that are not normal to the tanget of the bend

The rings are very thin with an upset in the middle that provides filler for the puddle. If there is any gap you will burn through the ring in a heartbeat

I found that even with a good fitup, I still get a little thinning at the weld joint and want to add just a little filler and you can grind them if you really want it to look nice.

Backpurge if you can too

You guys think using these would have any negative affect on flow or create turbulence?

I welded my headers and exhaust with a lincoln 110 on high heat 5-6 wire.... Welds were flat and probably less restrictive than the sleeves

Good to know about the thinning. From the look of it, that guy is going to be using filler over the ring anyways. Im trying to find the easiest way to make my first set of headers. Any little help from things like this is a bonus.

Im using the jegs pre-bent inframe kit. I just need to shorten a few places, lengthen a few, and make room for my steering linkage.

Any easy way to back purge with a single tank/regulator setup? I don't have the spare $$$ for a second tank or dual regulator.

get a Y connector for the reg U do have. Allows for 2 hoses to hook to 1 tank. No flow report w/o the reg, but could be a trial/error type set up...

Looks like Hooker no longer makes these. Anyone have an alternative? Looking for 1 7/8" stainless.

icengineworks make reusable welding alignment clamps that register around the O.D. of the tube.

if you really need that weld-backer type ring, you can buy some chill rings. but they're made to pipe schedule sizes so you might have to cut 'em down.

^that lil clamp thing is dope.
