Sorry that you wont have an LT1 to enjoy anymore, but congrats on picking up an LS. Have you dug into an LS before? If not, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

i bought an ls1 before to drop in and sold it when times got tough on me, but i kept the heads and valve covers which will go on the lq4... fs thread is up, just cant post links on mobile. the lq4 has ~100k miles on it and i will hone it, new rings and bearings find a cam, oil pan, k member, harness, accesories, and any other random stuff needed... i have some coil packs but im gonna be doing a lot of searching for swap info! and bargains on the swap parts

hey thanks man! maybe i should turn this into my build thread as well!

my engine bay paint showed up to work today, 1 qt of john deere primer along with 1 qt of john deere blitz black. tomorrow i will finish stripping everything out of the engine bay, only thing left is wires, rack, ecm, and brake booster. then this weekend after i pick that engine up i will paint the engine bay when it gets dark since thats the only time its under 80.

any thing you guys can think of that i will need for my swap that i didnt mention?

Have you thought of an LS2 rod/piston swap and ARP bolts? LS2 timing chain, f-body water pump, f-body balancer, intake/tb.

reason for going this route over the lt1 is to gain more power and stay away from the machine shop. i figure for around 1000-1500 i can do this swap compared to the 2100 bill just to put forged pistons in the lt1. i will put new bearings and rings in the lq4 and thats all im doing to the bottom end for now, i might gather parts for it later down the road but im also in the middle of building a house, just bought a 2011 malibu, trying to sell my truck, and build my daily driver.

ls3's are $700 complete. there are better options than the ms3, check out eps. are the 98 heads perimeter or center bolt (241s or 243s?)? early motor rod bolts aren't great, pre- 04 (iirc) rods are non-floating pins. LS6 intake is good.
