We hit rain and traffic a few miles before the bridge into Gonzales. Drag radial tires and rain are... lets call it "fun" .. ok not really but we didn't have any issues, just slowed down some to not hydroplane. I settled in and waited for the rest of our crew to catch up, they are rocking th400 and turbo350 transmissions to 60-65 was there comfort zone.

The next day, we registered and met up with the guys from Magnuson Superchargers. Visited a few friends and vendors and made our way to the autoX before the hurricane like rains set in again. We had a blast regardless! the first run was horrible learning the track, second time out was a huge improvement. Dropping over a second off my previous time. Then came the rain, so we headed to grab lunch and get ready to head to Baytown the next morning.

The next morning everyone was up early headed for Baytown, TX. We enjoyed the powertour route that takes us on roads less traveled. Cool cars and great people all along the way made it even better!
My wife in her 70' Lemans sport wagon - it ran great, original 400 poncho, th400 trans, pulled from a barn a few months ago, they don't make them like that anymore!
We made it to Baytown, parked at the Magnuson Supercharger booth to let the car cool down before making a pass down the 1/4 mile track.
I smoked the tires in 1st and 2nd gear but managed to beat a cts-V with a 12.59 @ 116mph pass. 60ft time was 2.2, not good but it's a 6 speed and could use a driver mod lol.

Here's where things get interesting... On the way to Baytown, I "thought" I heard some thing "different" about the car. But it was driving fine with no obvious signs of distress. Now I'm lined up, do a burn out, hammer the throttle to the end of the 1/4 mile, let off the gas and OH NOOOOO the car is grinding from the rear!! My initial thoughts are 'posi let go' worst case.. I get slowed down the grinding becomes a squeal.. ok I'm thinking brake problem now. So I park the car, grab a beer and walk away, because that fixes everything, right?? By the time I finish my beer the wind was picking up and starts to get crazy.. In comes mother nature, the wind picks up the Pilot Transport display and firmly plants it into my driver quarter panel. DANG IT!!

I make my way out of royal purple raceway to the hotel, that attempt was futile. I end up pulling into the closest gas station to investigate all the ungood noise coming from the rear axle. Turns out the bearing had let go and was eating the axle shaft!!
I had to buy a slide hammer to get the axle shaft out.. Knarly stuff!!
These are quality aftermarket axles, hard to find late at night..
We drove every where in the wagon, meeting people from Facebook that thought they had a stock axle I could make work, but no luck. We had to give up and wait till morning, luckily a fellow powertour participant lived close and had a trailer and gave us a ride to our hotel!!
Cool bridge near the coast, looking for an axle.

The next morning I was back at it. Took everything apart again and headed for a shop recommended by locals. Pyle Bros. had exactly what I needed. All the fluids and an aftermarket axle that worked with my 1/2 in ARP studs. Huge thanks to Mike and Brandon for all the help the night before, I told them to go ahead and I had it all handled. The next stop was Circuit of the America's and I didn't want anyone to miss out on my account!

Just read through this. Love the progression of this build. Truly reminds people that their projects are never complete, just that phase is complete. Helps me stay grounded instead of thinking I need everything to be thought of and perfect before moving on to the next part of the build.
Congrats on what you have made this car.
Couple questions-
Don't know if I have ever seen an early A body with the flush mounted glass, do you have anybody asking for that. I think it came out great on your body style.
You said you were going with a new fuel tank, what did you end up using? Did you sump it like the original you had?
Love to see all the miles you have put on it. I am definitely building mine as a driver and trying to not worry about every little detail all the time.

A few people have asked about the trim on early chevelles and a lot on Camaros. Its Certainly doable but may take some trial and error to get the desired look. The kits is only $189 shipped if you would like to try it.
I used a new stock tank and sumped it like the first, if you do this DO NOT use all 5 holes the instructions call for. Use two centered hole and starvation is a thing of the past.
Do you have a thread going somewhere? I would love to check out your car!

This Chevelle is parked in front of a house in Springtown, literally around the corner from me. I see you wrenching on cars in a barn in the weekends. I need to swing by and see what you all are doing one day.

hey lownfast can you give any more information on the back window trim you used in post #389. I went to that website and tried to find the molding but had no luck. I love how it looks and am curious how its held up over the years.
