I did my cam and spring swap on the engine stand. You take the rockers and pushrods out and flip the motor over so the lifters stay up and out of the way. Just a little trick I learned.
The motor looks really good painted. Where did you get that grommet at? Did you have to feed the wires through it before you finished the harness?

The harness is a stand alone that came just like you see it with the grommet.

Great thread. I hope to get a a 70 velle in the next couple of weeks and start working on it. I plan on going with a lsx 454crate motor or one built from texas speed...not too sure, still in the planning stages...step one is to find a car though...I will definitely be referring to your thread once I find my project...thanks for the great thread!!

Thanks, I would love to have a 70. I may swap my front end to a 70 if I have to do very much work on my 71 fenders. The lsx454 would be pretty amazing, if your budget can handle the hit, I say go for it!

Yeah I am definitely going 454...not too sure how long its going to take to that point though...I plan on starting from the frame with full suspension from UMI then going to the body, then the engine and trans...we will see....but definitely following your thread though...keep up the good work!!

So which frame did you end up using??? Did you clean and paint the original one and just not show pictures, or did you stick with the replacement?

I used the replacement frame that was already built. I had some concerns about the Trans crossmember not bolting in as easy on the new frame. But once the weight of the body was on the frame, every thing lined up nicely.

Progress is slow in the heat but I did get my cam swapped and started on the springs just to find out my valve spring tool won't work on L92 heads, so now I have another tool to buy. Here are a few pics

I borrowed a coworkers tool and then made my own. There are simpler tools but this was cheap. I bought a 1/4" x 2" x 3ft piece of steel at Menards in the welding metal section. Cut it to the length I wanted and heated it up and put two bends in it. Drilled two holes and notched one out. Used a bolt with a nut and washers. Threaded it into the rocker threads and tightened the nut down so the washers laid flat on the tool and the tool was low enough for my to push the spring down. Filled the cylinder with air and pried down and used a magnet to remove the keepers. Putting the new keepers in you might want to put some type of grease or silicone to hold them in.

New clutch master came, got it off eBay brand new for a sweet deal.
Installed the new to me fly by wire gas pedal, courtesy of an 08 impala.
And just a bit more prep on the floor before I can paint every thing and start laying dynomat.
