Actually I'm not using the LS9 Map, never got around to it. I'm currently using the 2bar map, GM Pt# 12615136.

Default Update

Well I'm still running the 11.50 class here local each Thursday and it has run 11.5 @ 132 as a best mph. On Oct 6th the local track will have a Q16 race and the track will be treated the best this day. I'm going to buy a time ticket on this day and turn up the boost on this stock LQ4 and see what she will do. I'm hoping for that 9.99 pass at full weight, 4055lbs. We shall see ...

There was also a development for next years racing this week, I picked up whats in the attached pic. When finished it should be a full forged 408 with the PRC LS3 6bolt aftermarket heads and Turbo spec cam. So next year we should see what the 88mm turbo is capable of.

Talking Update

Well, I was able to make it to the the track but no 9's for me. One the first pass (11psi launch / up to 18psi .5sec out) the car totally unloaded the tires, 3 times. That netted me a 2.0 60'. I eased back into the throttle and ran it out. The ET was crap but it did run 136mph so it would have been a 9 sec pass im pretty sure. Timing was at 17* and WB was reading 11.3 the whole pass, IAT was 60* on 112 octane. I think I hurt it when it unloaded the tires because when I got back to my pit I could hear the slightist clicking sound so I loaded the car up. She is def hurt a little bit, if I'd ran it again it would have most likely scattered. I will update you all with what it was that got hurt as I just put the car away in the garage and have not looked at it.

The numbers that made this last all year (not the above pass) for me are as follows:

AFR 10.9 to 11.0
IAT 50 to 75*
Fuel 110 race fuel
Boost 9psi launch
15psi during pass
Timing 17* flat under boost
- this would net 10.2-10.3's @ 132mph ish in my 4050lb setup

All and all I'm more that happy with the $1150 stock engine. Its just amazing what they will handle. It has run low 10's all year long (over 180 passes). We are inpressed to say the least, and I think all our SBC stuff will be for sale soon, lol!

How does the 88 spool on the street? Is it laggy at all, more at home with the transbrake?
I am starting a similar build with a 4l80e and unknown turbo.

It is not that bad at all, but I do have a big stall (flashes 3700). If you are cruising and brake boost it, the boost will be at 15psi almost instantly. With a tighter converter (3000 or so) it would be laggy for sure.

Talking Update:

Well we finally pulled the engine out to see what the noise actually was and everything looked perfect except for 3 rods (attached pic). One of the 3, one in the pic, was bent so bad it was down from the deck .200" at TDC, lol! You can see in the pic where I marked the "clean spot" with the arrow. This rod was so bent that when the piston was at the bottom of the stroke this part of piston was touching the counterweights of the crank, causing the chirping/clicking sound I heard after that run. So with this known now, I'm glad I didn't run it again or it would have def scattered. 136.8 mph @ 4050lbs = north of 740whp based on Wallace Racing Calc for WHP. I'm very pleased with how this combo turned out. Now that its out, the 403 LsX will be going in soon.

BTW: I bought 8 pistons/rods from the classifides on here and will be swapping them out in this engine and it will be going in the new project once the LSX is done ... a TT '86 Vette. Chevette that is. LOL! It should be fun and will have a build thread for it here also.

shows how good gas and good tune can make a motor last. to bend and not brake says it all.

I was wondering if you were the guy he was talking about since you are from up there...when I saw the picture I knew it was you.

Nice build...more fun next year in store.

Initial runs once tuned will be 850whp ish. See how the car is doing, adjust new ARB & susp a bit. After its all worked out then work my way up with boost (20 or so psi) to over 1000whp. If the car likes it I will close the gate off to max boost (guessing 24ish psi) hoping for around a turbo limited 1200whp turned up. All guesses right know, guess we will see in a few months.

There's the link to this years build. Only about 10x's the cost, but guessing not quite 10x's the power. Funny how that works. Lol !
