Default valley tray gasket question

hey guys, I have a 5.3 lmg carb swap, I went and got the LS2 valley tray, it dont have the little round gaskets on it, some people are using the gaskets and some are saying to block to lifter holes by tap and thread them and use bolts to block the holes? is there any reason to block the holes or use gaskets? here are a few pics to show what im talking about, thanks

I blocked the holes in LS3 with plugs, like the second picture. If your valley cover is made for the o-rings, to block off the holes, just do it that way. Cheaper and easier.

Without the o-rings or plugs, you'll have 8 pretty good sized oil leaks and very little pressure...

where would the oil leaks come from? oil can only run back down inside the engine? the holes were for pushing oil pressure on the dod lifters right? oil went down through not up right? with them gone and regular LS7 lifters replacing them and LS2 valley tray how would oil come up through the holes? thanks for the reply

Plug them if the engine is not built. If it is together then run the correct gasket.

I have one both ways and the plugs are the way to go with the engine appart.

1/8" allen head pipe plugs. Get them and a tap at the local hardware store or a bolt/fastener store.

There are 2 distinct oil passages going to each cylinder deactivation lifter bore, one for the hydraulic lash-adjusting feature of the lifter, and one for controlling the locking pins used for cylinder deactivation.

The oil passages in the block supply oil pressure to the LOMA manifold. The solenoids provide the oil to the lifters to deactivate it using oil pressure. Hydro lifter function is supplied by another port.

So if they are left open it will cause an oil leak and loss of oil pressure same as if you left a plug out of the engine. The oil will flow to path of least resistance hence a loss of oil pressure which equals toasted bearings even if it's just ported back into the pan its still a leak. So either buy an LS3 valley cover with o-rings or a Vortec one. Or plug them.
