Hey guys i got this 5.3 motor from a friend and he told me he was not sure what year it was just that it only had 20'000 miles on it and its been sitting in his shop for a couple years.

On the Front of the Block Passager side it has 16M03 and on the heads it has 4045ok 361924 and Cast in the head is 12567392706.

Look for a 3 digit number on the heads. (706, 243, etc). That should at least narrow down the year range.

Are the coils there? Later engines get rounded coils and earlier ones get square coils.

That may be what it is one guy said the 16 M 03 on there front of the Block Stood for 16 day in March of 2003 so it must be a 03.

Actually late 2004, and all 2005 and up are returnless rails.
No EGR after 2003.
And DBW started in 2002 on some select model 5.3L (these had EGR not 100 sure though as they were somewhat rare used on high end SUV's) and all 2003 up were DBW after with no EGR.

Its DBW motor judging by the PVC vent line behind the TB mount, the lack of EGR and its a return fuelrail. So looks like that's a 2003 or early 2004.

Ok guys i just got it at a GREAT deal and have it posted up for sale on my facebook page and some other pages for a good Swap motor like i said it only had 20'000 miles on it when pulled out so it should make some one a good motor for a Old Hot Rod. And if i dont sale it soon i will find something to drop it down in to. I just need to know what year it was that way if i needed to find a Harness are have one built i would know what year i needed.

I have the same question guys. The front passanger side of the block reads: A152. The heads are 862 casting and read: A162. Im guessing its a 5.3 for the fact it has dish pistons, but i'm not sure what year.

Then its doesn't really matter the year as all long blocks 5.3L LM7's interchange 99-2006 anyway. There were small changes like timing chain tensioner, head bolt lengths changed, little things you could narrow it done year wise.

Did'nt really intend on going post for post about this. Head bolts did'nt come with(Kind of a big change), and it did'nt have a tensioner. I guess what im really asking is a yes or no answer, if its not to much trouble. Can I tell what year this is by the numbers on the block?
