Another 5.3.......Well 6.0 Mustang Build
I started a thread over here about this but didn't put a lot of info and goals for the build. As Of now I'm up in the air with the Cam/Intake I'm thinking Vic Jr but not sure with the 5.3 that It will be able to turn that high to benefit so cam choice is still up in the air but it DOES have 243's so it might be able to handle the Vic Jr vs the RPM Idk I want it to run as fast as possible not to just have fancy parts that I "Think" my car needs. Here is the Car its going in
As of Now motor wise
5.3 out of a 2007 suburban
243's are going to be untouched
Cam choice (Idk)
Intake choice (GMPP v. Vic Jr. v RPM) also an idk
Going to look into the 351w headers to put on it vs the 900 Kooks.....
all in front of a TH350 with a 3800 JW Stall
Then hooking a 150 shot to it
Was reading about the igniton box and to no get the "Kit" and buy the box separate so what box should I get instead of that one?
I'm looking for the guru's of the LS platform to steer me in the right way I've seen the MS3/TH400 mustang here flirt with the 9's and I want to run some 10 second passes NA and 9 second passes on the gas so input is appreciated greatly and will be learning a lot on the way!!
AJE K-Member and A Arms
Flaming River Manual Rack
Coil over conversion
Steeda outer tierods w/bump steer kit
Harwood 6 inch cowl
8 pt cage
Strange Adjustable rear shocks
8.8 with 3.73s
Weld 15 drag lites
98 GT dash and console
and 50k on the body
I'm curious as to what the car weighs and have no scale around here any fox body guys know what a pretty much gutted. No Ac No PS All tubular front suspension with Racing seats and coil over conversion might weigh?

Shouldnt have any problem with 9's on the bottle if you run my old setup. Th350 weighs alittle less also I didnt have the trans brake other wise we could have tamed the 9's. Im already missing my old car knowing now that its being parted out and turned into a turbo setup by the new owner.

Pretty conservatively you should be just under 3000lbs with driver with that set up. My 92 hatch with a carbed 302, race seats, roll bar was 3100lbs but I still had PS/Brakes, AC.
Don't forget the dynatech headers. They are around $600, might be an easier option versus the 351W headers.

Well my dad has a Th400 for a BOP I know it won't work but he has a quality JW converter in it.......Are the Th400 and TH350 the same converters? and Will it bolt up to the flexplate or was BOP and Chevy converters bolt up any different. Don't think it matters but don't want to run into the road block when the time goes and decided it will the MS3 since it was shown to work already

With respect to the race weight, tube suspension, gutted interior, coil overs, aluminum block and heads, manual everything, roll bar not roll cage, I can see the car sitting around 2750 lbs without driver.
My "stock" 90 hatch, all OEM suspension, iron block, iron heads, 10 hole wheels, no roll bar, was about 2840 without me in it.
My 88 coupe, all tube suspension, 10 pt cage, iron block, aluminum heads, completely gutted internally except for what NMRA required, was about 2650 lbs before adding ballast to make race weight. Hatchbacks are only about 50 lbs heavier than a coupe.
My 96 Cobra was as heavy as my 04 GTO. It was a pig.
From there it's just power to weight ratio to trap what you need for the ET you want. For mid 10's on motor plan on trapping 125-128 mph. For mid 9's plan on trapping 135-140 mph. To trap 125 mph you probably need about 420-440 at the wheels in a 3000 lb race weight Fox. Add another 100-120 hp to go 10 mph faster.

I'm going for 2800 pounds with me in is the goal meaning I'll have to get it in the 2630 area which I think with all the tubular front suspension the Drag Lites with skinnies in the front, Interior being gutted, Dash being gutted (Found out AC and Air Bags are still in it) Manual rack, Fiberglass pin on hood it should be able to be done might have to get creative but with the 99 Dash I'm going to gut take out the gauges and put a piece of sheet metal where the gauges were and run my own. But in all reality if it sits under 3k with me in it i'll be happy.
And on the times wise I want 11.1-10.8 on motor which with healthy cam on top of the 243's and Vic Jr I "THINK" can be done

Under 3000 lbs should not be hard if you are 170 lbs.
Hitting 2800 lbs with driver is going to be tough to do, unless you are mini tubbing and cutting out floorpans and replacing them with aluminum. I've owned fox mustangs since 1989, a couple of them dedicated race cars, and I think that's just a bridge too far, especially if your goal is only 11.0.
edit - 2850 with driver is much more do-able than 2800 in a hatch.

Yea the th350 n 400 is the same converter. "turbo spines" and the bolt pattern on the flex plate is also the same. Just find a Chevy bell 400 case and swap the guts. Or cut the bell housing off and put a Jw bell on it. You has some options there
