Default 67-69 1st gen camaro guys, how close is ur engine to the firewall?

Well I had some ls plates ill post a pic of them and when I mount the factory engine rubber mounts to it, it puts the pass head very close to the firewall, maybe a finger width. Is this correct or right?
The plate in question is the one on the bottom left, not the others.
So what do ur plates look like? Or where is your plate engine mounting holes compared to the holes for the 3 bolt engine mount? I've seen all kinds of plates with different holes. Maybe I have the 1" set back plates but I don't like em.
Also how low or how close is your engine to your crossmember?
Where does the engine need to be to use a th350 tranny so I won't have to modify the driveshaft or tranny mount?
I'm using a ctsv pan, but have an fbody pan also.

I had the same on my 71 Nova.. but they are pretty much the same setups and problems.

The one on the left is what they call 1" set back plates. yes this would put the engine (right side) very close to the firewall and mine give problems with the Transmission tunnel also. If you can't deal with or work out the close contact, I moved my Frame Stand forward 1/2" to get that must more room, see my thread on what i did (in my sig)

From what I understand the 1in set backs are supposed to put transmission in stock location, Im putting a LQ9 in 69 also but haven't set mine in the car so can't confirm this.

That bottom left is a 1 inch setback. Standard plates the motor mount shares one of the engine plate holes(6 total holes). With 1 inch setback plates there are 7 total holes.

I personally bought 1 inch setbacks because I can always redrill it for standard mount if needed. You cant do that with standard plates, not long enough.

Looks very close to the ones I used (1"set-back)
Tranny dip stick has been smashed some and I will go with a Locar<sp> one later down the road.
I didn't remove the tranny, so I know the MM's are right.

The advantage of the 1" set back plates is that the bellhousing flange is in the same location as with the SBC or BBC engine in place. Some have been able to use a unmodified 98-02 Camaro oil pan with 1" setback plates in 67-69 Camaros.

Please post up some pics if you get a chance to try out the f body pan with 1" setback mounts. I think it is a 50 / 50 deal, some have steering interference and others don't. I have heard that there are different center links or maybe pitman / idler arms from 67 to 68-69. Let us know what you find out.

I sure will post up pics for all to see n know. Also my center link if i recall isnt straight, it kinda has an offset towards the crossmember. It has power steering so i dont know if that may be it. Anyone know? May be the same for non power steering cars. Ill try today if not by this weeks end.

I have the hooker plates in my 67 camaro. This put the engine right up on the firewall. Can't stick my pinky in there.

I put the ATS trans crossmember and that push the front of the transmission up on the tunnel.

I am considering going with the carshop 1" setback plates, pertronix adjustable plates, or the dirty dingo sliders and be done with this. Check out David Pozzi's site for info on the longer idler arm used in 1967 (http://www.pozziracing.com/first_gen_suspension.htm).

For some reason GM created a shorter idler arm for 68/69 but used the same length pitman arm thus creating the offset link you are talking about. If you buy a replacement idler arm at a parts house they will only have the shorter 68/69 idler arm. I found the original/longer 67 arm at classic industries but I think other such places have the specific 67 arm (even moog does not carry the 67 idler). I chose the 67 idler so that I could have more room for the Stock 2002 LS1 Fbody oil pan, we'll see if that plan works out or I might have to go aftermarket. Keep us posted with pics, good luck.

I used S&P adapter plates, stock motor mounts with SBC stands and I have 1.75" on the passenger side and over 2" in the driverside.

So your setup put the engine farther forward? That's where mine was but I got these plates for free.

Then you'll need to move tranny forward...
