Interior looks great.

Did you decide on 3" vs 2.5?

Honestly, unless you are going to run valves like the C6 ZR1/Z06, the 3 inchers are gonna drone on the hwy. I have a 570 rwhp blown C5 that does just fine with the very civilized 2.5" titanium Z06 exhaust.

Everyone involved thus far has told me to definitely go with dual 3". I have already dropped off my headers to get the collectors cut off and replaced I figure I can play with mufflers and resonators to fix any drone issues. I also don't want this car to be civilized. I want the kids in the neighborhood to run and hide when I am driving through.

You should consider adding a valved setup a la the C6 Corvette with a manual override. That way, you can have your anti-social proclivities satisfied and not go nuts on a road trip.

Or don't, and I'll add them when I buy it. ;-)

Haha! I am considering that down the road. My wife and I are building a house so I need to start taking it easy on expenses for this project. Luckily I am almost done.

The exhaust guy said let's stick with swapping to the 3" collectors and if I decide on 2.5", he can reduce it right after the headers. That way, I don't have to pull the headers again. I thought that was the perfect solution

Love this project!! Cant wait to see the next update.

Just FYI I had a LSX454 in a G8 with 1 7/8" long tubes, 3" collectors, no cats, and 3" pipe all the way back to two 5"x8" Magnaflows. Not a bit of drone and actually quieted down the engine a good bit, quieter then I wanted actually. It depends on the car, engine, etc because people complain about drone with the stock engine and 2.5" exhaust.

Your thread has me daydreaming about buying a 2001 e38 740iL and making a 770iL. I don't need anymore projects.

Do it! There is only on LS swapped E38 on bimmerforums that I know of. I have always loved the E38's. Just a big E34. I am about to buy a set of black E38 sport seats for my build

I saw the beginning of a LS build, but it seemed the guy never finished it? I also found one that had a turbo carb'd SBC in it, but it was sloppy/ghetto.

This is the one I have been following. I love how he is trying to mount all the BMW engine covers so it still looks stock.

Sweet. The E38 "Contour" seats were the only ones to have adjustments buttons for every angle. All the other E38/E39 seats, including the M5, have annoying plastic plugs for either the upper back or thigh supports. I hate those blank plugs remind you of a feature you don't have.....

Indeed.

Clay came by to weld in my DBW pedal bracket. I dropped off my diff cover to get machined for the triple clutches.

My trans is back at my friends shop from D&D. Can't wait to see what they did to the tail section to make it fit. Still waiting on a few little odds and ends before I pick it up and install it. Hoping to have it running this month and driving by the end of next month.

This thread is SO full of win. You do SUPER clean work! I will fall in with the crowd suggesting dual 3" all the way out. You're on the right track with big dual muffs, dual cats, and tuning with bullets. Consider a FAST intake...there are serious gains with your LS7 top end right there, which are easy to find here. Your 600 goal should be pretty easily attainable. Your work quality is seriously awesome and you take good pics too. We have high hopes for your videography too. I don't like iron blocks generally...so I just assume you plan on adding atmospheres later.

Thanks!!mI am doing dual 3" all the way back. I bought one of my Borla XR-1 multi core mufflers already. Also getting twin 3" spun flomaster cats. I don't think the alum block is worth the time and money to swap personally. My friend offered me a fast manifold but said the LS7 mani is actually a better design with better flow. I just googled and it does seem it improves the curve across the board. Especially with my hot cam. I will ask my friend if he still has it.

Looking real nice!!

I so want to do this swap on my 850i! I want to yank out that gas hog, no power having V12 and put a LS in. I just finished putting a LS4 drivetrain in my Lambo Diablo kit car so now Im really considering doing my 850i after watching your progress in this thread....

Thanks, everyone.

Re-sprayed the rear bumper b/c I wasn't happy with the color match before. Perfect now! Also installed the bumper trim and sprayed the M5 valence.

Before and after lol
