I notice all the brand new NY/NJ cars on the salvage auction site. Would these engines be a good candidate for a swap? I understand that all the electronics may be suspect, but what about the engine itself? Especially if you're getting an aftermarket harness? Thoughts? Cuz there are a LOT of brand new/low mileage motors coming on the market.

It would really depend on how high the water got. I would not trust anyone's word or any pictures on actual condition. In person it should be easy to tell if water got inside the motor. These motors are sealed up pretty good and if the water was lower than the exhaust ports you might be ok.

LS1MCSS is right, it all depends on the level of submersion. I got my car from VehBidz auto auction as there was a big choice of flood damaged cars for sale there, and the water level wasn't deep enough to cause any problems with engine.

One issue that may be hard to find: Engine is full, someone tries to crank it.
I just saw a rollover engine get totalled.. The wrecker guy pulled it back over, got in to see if it would start. 2 rods out of the block. Same thing with salt water.......
Rods may not be outside, but could be seriously damaged.

Salt water, sand mixed with salt water, all kinds of foul stuff mixed with salt water in the engine.
I would buy as a core only. Would be great core if it was a low or no mileage 6.2.

bought my motor after katrina in new orleans, I personally went to pick it up saw no signs of corrosion, any salt water corrosion totals vehicles, at our shop flood cars after a hard rain get repaired, flood cars after a hurricane get inspected for salt corrosion on anything inside vehicle, and any sign of salt water corrosion totals the vehicle,
