Microsquirt LS1 = harness vid
Thought I would do a video of the parts needed to build a microsquirt LS1 harness for the lowest possible cost.
Later, another of how the assembled harness lays out on a LS1 engine.

what kind of wire you plan on using to assemble the harness? TXL? That is a simple setup, I dont like that it cannot use the IAC. But thats just me.

Lets just say I have stipped down about a 100 harnesses and converted them to standalone config so I have plenty of GM factory color wire. I will solder and heat shrink all connections. There is nothing wrong or unreliable about that if done correctly.
I have over 40 years experience soldering and am NASA certified plus have over 30 years experience in calibration, fabrication, troubleshooting electronics in the US Air Force.
I am not gonna get into the whole solder v crimp debate.
The purpose of this post is to show how affordable a person can safely and reliably run a megasquirt on a LS1, similar to how others have done here on the forum.
NOT to use all new parts and drive the cost through the roof to discourage people. It is purely to show that with a non-electronic controlled trans config, the home builder can do it for less then a LS1 pcm.
The idle can be effectvely controlled via a fast idle solenoid just like ford and a multiple of other OEM manufacturers have done it for years.

I wasnt second guessin ya, just wondering what your plans were!
There wont be any debate here, you are going to solder everything!
Im not into hijacking threads for debates, just asking for details as I know nothing about a mega squirt.

I like the approach, keep it up! What about the oil pressure sensor? Or did i miss it in the video. Also, looks like you are doing a fully assembled board. Do you recommend buying it that way or soldering a board at home? Also, since you got the experience, what kind of soldering setup would you recommend for the guys at home. I always seem to struggle with either overheating it or never getting the right temp. Also, the guns ive bought from radio shack seem to take forever. Id love to learn to get it right!

Oil pressure sensor is not monitored by microsquirt nor the ls1 pcm's.
Microsquirt is fully assembled as shown with the 30 inch harness so it is not a kit version.
Megasquirt comes as a kit or fully assembled. To me it is worth getting any mega fully assembled. I can solder it quickly but prefer assembled.

Interesting! I'd never heard of a "micro", but after a quick peek at their page, it looks like it only supports 4 injectors? Info keeps saying "4 high impedance injectors per bank", but I only see one bank on their schematic. Are you going to use some of the aux circuits for the remaining injectors?

It can handle 4 injectors per bank with IGBT drivers that handle 5 amps. Another mega guy sells affordable low impedance adapter boards for huge low impedance high flow injectors for big boy turbo setups. They are similar to a Versa fueler box only much lower price.

I really like the Megasquirt stuff.. much more simple than most make it out to be. I've done a few harness conversions for myself and friends and I would say its probably faster to build a MS harness from scratch than going through a factory harness and cutting out all of the crap not needed.

Spend $340 and get the microsquirt box and a 30 inch harness and scrounge used connectors off a junk harness, or buy new connectors and spend less than $100 on connectors for new. Micro software is free, does not cost additional credits for custom operating system upgrades for boosted applications. No HPT to buy or any credits at all. Want to change injectors or add a cam and you can tune it yourself, includes auto tune feature, real time tuning while the engine is running at no added cost. No need to send the PCM off for changes as you can make them for free and immediately. Only disadvantage I see is limited input and outputs so no factory iac control. Iac can be controlled via a fast idle solenoid same as ford uses. It can control electric fans, has built in launch control and flat shift capabilities. But no transmission control unless you buy another micro and connect the two together to control the trans.

I've been looking deep into this megasquirt 3 and it is unbelievable. It will controll everything except the trans.witch they have one that does and fully programable too but their ecm does Boost, timming, fuel, datalogg their units seem to have unlimited uses, and if you know and understand electrical componants and do your homework you can have a bad*%$ ECM and no confusing credits,or license like the others..if you can do it all your self and assemble the boards... I figured after I buy everything I'll have less than HP tuners would cost me...I cant wait !
